Why can’t I just be happy with my driver?

I'm doing everything I can to knock og sim max outta the bag. But it's still there. Tsr2 is knocking on the door tho. I am trying to see if I can squeeze more outta the sim with different shafts.

That club is borderline perfect, mine looks like microwaved garbage (sandy soil, range rat) but it's unbeatable so far.

Just redirect your attention towards more spin with new wedges. If that doesn't work, woods and hybrids, then irons.

Repeat the process.

Good luck eh!

I’ve been hitting my sim max well with my evenflow blue. So of course tonight I put in the evenflow riptide. Results were good, but I’m not sure if I want to look I at tsr2 as well.

The only thing I don't like about my sim max and most taylormade drivers is any shot on the heel is punished worse than most other drivers. Fortunately my miss is usually toe center. The tsr2 was lower spin than my sim max and pretty dang forgiving.

I did this with driver shafts, literally went through 7 last season until I settled in on Ventus Black.  I have ZERO desire to upgrade that shaft and actually bought an additional with different adapter for trying different brand heads lol.

I thought I was "there" with driver in the TSi2 last year but in tinkering, there was just too much distance being left on the table despite the consistency and fairways.  It's all ego

Now I have a Stealth+ head and the distance is back and then some.  Pretty consistent but the TSi2 was just automatic.  Now curious of the TSR2 might be the total package.  When prices drop that will be in the bag.

It's a sickness!  I think if you can keep yourself from buying them new and waiting a year to buy a great condition head-only on the secondary market (and then selling old gear), you can keep the sickness from impacting the wallet too much.

I’m the same way with my fairway woods. I’ve tried 5 different fairway woods, and 4 different hybrids in my bag this year. Losing my a** on trade ins. Results hardly change at all between clubs. What makes it worse is to watch most of the pros just play whatever is new and it doesn’t affect their game, YouTube dryball club reviews show there is almost no difference in the equipment.

I know logically it’s not the sticks. But I’m still hunting for that club that goes 215-235 like a sniper rifle. Every time I miss that shot on the course a couple times, off to trade in again.  It’s out there. I’m sure of it….

I am happy when what I am playing is beating out the new stuff.

I played the Cobra ZL Encore for many years. I would laugh and say nothing beating you out again this year and take the thought of something new out of my head.

The Cobra F9 finally knocked the ZL Encore out of my bag.

The F9 didn't last as long . The Exotics C721 knocked it out of the bag.

The C721 is performing so well I'm not even trying out the new stuff.

Not every new driver is better than before. If it is it's probably not worth the upgrade.

The ZL Encore was such a damn good driver. I Played that for 3+ years or so, and would never sell it.

A bit deeper into this, pros often have a team of knowledgable fitters throwing stuff at them to test every week.  We may tinker "too much," but they're often on another level.  They may have the opportunity to try 2-3 driver shafts at 2-3 different loft settings along with new wedges with different grinds and a new putter every week.

Pros have a massive advantage in that they are able to test things on a regular basis and figure out what they like, all without having to pay what we do to be able to do that testing.

I play an original Callaway Rogue, 9* tuned down to 8, with a stiff shaft. For my ability level and swing speed, I hit it well. Driver SS about 92, typical carry about 220, and I hit it pretty straight despite hitting all over the face. It is forgiving. I rarely lose balls with it. And shotscope data says I gain strokes with driver compared to my handicap. And yet, I am constantly on a search for a new driver. Last fall, I went to a Callaway demo day and, they could not beat my Rogue with the new Rogue ST. Saturday, I tried the Ping G430. Same thing. Similar, but not better. Tried the Srixon ZX 5, loved the feel, but don’t think it actually performed better. I’ve been doing this same thing for like 3+ years. Trying driver after driver hoping to find something better, but not doing so. Why can’t I just be happy that I have a driver that outperforms my handicap for me? It’s like I am just dying to spend my money on something new and the data keeps getting in the way.

that is why golf is so great and maddening at the same time. The quest for better

I was lucky enough to talk to Sam Snead one time.  He told me that Wilson used to send him 50 drivers every year made to his specs.  He said he was lucky if I found one that he liked.  But he sure did have fun selling them to pigeons who wanted to play the same driver that he played.  In truth, the shafts and heads are all different to some measure, particularly shafts.

Every year with me, it's a new driver and putter. But this year ... man, this year truly feels different. The TSR3 is ridiculous, and the Phantom 7 for me is just so easy.

Talk to me in six months, but I have a feeling I'm going to break tradition in '23.

I don't crave new drivers. I need to know what it's going to do more than I need 5 more yards.  Changing drivers constantly would definitely hurt my scores. But it's probably about time to look into upgrading the M5.

What sort of question is this? The answer is you are a WRXer ...

I used to play the same clubs for 5 to 10 years, as a Golf WRX member, my bag now turns over every 5 to 10 months.

For example, I played the same Hogan 56 degree SW for almost 15 years, no GW or LW, now I have a bag full of different wedges for different turf conditions in my garage, none is more than 3 years old.

Have you tried the Paradym?  I've tested almost every '23 driver and it edged out the other drivers plus gave me the best dispersion.  Higher end of average ball speed for me as well.  I find the Paradym to be more forgiving on mishits as well in the ball speed retention and consistent spin department compared to the OG Rogue.  Something to consider since you say you hit it all over the face.

Went to a fitter 5 years ago. He put me into a 12.5 degree KZG non adjustable head. Shaft-not a clue.

I haven't had any gas. I'll replace it if I break it.

If I hit it correctly, I get my 210 down the middle.

A guy can do far worse than 210 down the middle but prices are reasonable for newer stuff i see. You can get a SIM with a great shaft on it for less than $200 now. Same with a Ping etc.
