Why can’t I just be happy with my irons?

It seems every time I get into a groove with my current irons and have some good rounds (ZX5/ZX7 combo), I get a round with some shots that make me longing for the i230s I bought on BST and sold off. Mainly because of left/right dispersion. I liked the i230s, but they were coming off short and sometimes too much spin especially into the wind leaving shots shorter than I would expect. But man were they straight. Now I can’t help but wondering if I should get them again with the power spec to make up the difference. 
 

I read the thread about why can’t I be happy with my driver and it got the gears going again….

Seems to be a lot of that out here. But you could do that or try to hit a few more clubs like the Titleist 100 strong etc.

I was just fit for the i230's and have put in about 3 rounds with them - they are the best and most forgiving I've even played. Power spec is just making your 7i a 6.5i so you might as well just just hit your 6i with the standard loft. Personally, I would look into changing balls to lower spin and flight before I changed from the i230.

Well maybe it's because we are not professionals, even they have bad rounds.

I thought I was reading something I posted in my sleep last night! HA. I'm right there with you. I bought a set of zx7 mkii and i230 over the winter to test since my heart is always in on srixon but the i230s were my favorite looking in years. I LOVED the i230s, everything about them except the large sole. I also loved the zx7 but they seemed thicker to me. I sold zx7 and ended up selling my i230s not long after. About 2 weeks later I realized every time I went to the range or to play I always thought about the i230s. Here I am today gaming a second set of i230s. 
 

i will admit, I also got another set of the zx7s again to try them on turf. Ended up comboing blueprints with my i230s to make up for the thicker soles. It's safe to say i230 has been my favorite iron in a long time. The sole is my ONLY complaint but the BPs should answer that issue.

And to add to my above comment, I also struggled with feeling my distance was a bit shorter than I'm used to. But I think a bit of it was the ball and the fact it was crazy windy that day. I also am interested in power spec.

In the discussion of your ZR5/ZR7 vs. i230 dilemma, it appears that neither combo seems to be your superset. And bear in mind this:

You might try a combination diagnostic fitting and golf lesson on your ZR mix to get data on your performance. Possibly you have a minor swing glitch that is causing your left-right dispersion.

Adding on to the fact we're not professionals, what works for us one day sometimes doesn't work another. Sometimes it's easier to second guess equipment choices than accept an off day, especially if you're already thinking you made a mistake.

This won’t help but I bought i230s, and immediately sold my gamer ZX5 set. Bought a combo ZX5/ZX7 II combo set, compared against the i230s, and immediately sold them on BST again 😝 I won’t have anything replace the i230s in the tournament bag anytime soon IMO

I feel like it is a chicken egg scenario. People who mess with gear join golfwrx. Then they give other gear heads more ideas. Self proliferating.
