Wedge recommendation

Recommended Posts

I am looking at getting new wedges (50,54,58) and was looking at the Cleveland rtx6 wedges. I was thinking mid bounce for the 50,54 but for the 58 was thinking low. Not sure what other people have done. Or if someone can give some insight into the low bounce wedge I haven’t been able to find one to hit yet.

Also open to other wedge options if someone has compared the rtx6 to something else.

I play RTX Zipcore 54 mid & 58 full.  58 full is my sand club and for fluffy greenside turf.

I love that 54 mid.  Favorite club in the bag.

what do you find the biggest difference between the mid and the low is from the 56 vs 60?

I’ve played RTX4,5,6 and now CBX Zips. For me, RTX wedges tend to play like they have less bounce than what’s listed. The Mid grind is very good and very versatile. Unless I was playing extremely tight and firm conditions I would steer away from the low grind.

Little more heel and toe relief. Sits slightly lower to the turf.

That's about it.

Thanks for the information. Now I saw you are using the CBX zips how do they compare to the RTX 6 wedges? I was reading a tread before that you were on I think. Do you still like them. I am playing zx4-zx5 set so had thought about the cbx as a gap wedge.

They are just better. Feel just as good, spin just as much, but much better on slight mishits towards the toe. Essentially shots fly the same trajectory, spin the same, and carry almost the same whether stuck in dead center or slightly toe side. When testing, my front to back dispersion went from 6yds on the RTX5 to 3yds on the CBX Zips. Doesn’t sound like a ton, but 9ft closer to target is a huge improvement. Then the sole grind is just better from bunkers, rough, and bad lies. Cleveland really dropped the ball on the marketing of these wedges. They are the best I’ve ever played.

Okay that’s a solid endorsement. Any issues with the 60 or miss anything from the RTX5

I can't touch this thread -- don't know anything about your swing, your divot, shallow, steep, whether you like to open, what shots you take, your typical conditions, etc.

Good luck

The only issue I have is on the 60* when you set the face wide open. it has a touch too much bounce on the heel if you’re on firm, tight conditions. However, it’s soooo good everywhere else that it’s still staying in the bag. I may have the heel ground to make it perfect, but it’s a 9 out of 10.

Thanks for the information. I am going to check it out compared to rtx6. Did you keep the stock shafts?

For me I am getting back into the game after a long time off(kids). The short game I would say was not always the best part of my game then. Full shots fine but the more finesse shorter shots tended to be more of the issue.

did you try the Mizuno s23 wedges, looked from photos a little cavity back like. Or if there were others you tried would be interested in hearing your thoughts on them.

I like the stock spinner 115 that’s in them. I always played the “spinner” 8 iron shaft in my wedges for decades, so it’s a feel I like being a little softer. S23 wedges are good, but the CBX Zips are better for me.

So I was finally able to hit the cbx today and they were really nice. Very forgiving I was kind of all over the face and there wasn’t much of a drop off and distance. Do you have the full face ones?

I can’t do the full face grooves, just wigs me out. They are awesome wedges. Just don’t understand why Cleveland doesn’t show the data of how good they are across the face.

What wedge should they compare it to? They can't compare it to the RTX and make it look like that wedge is inaccurate!

Yeah it also nuts that you can find more reviews on these wedges online either.

It’s just nuts that Cleveland aren’t shouting from the rooftops about how consistent the wedge is. As Treehugger73 said, maybe they don’t want to hurt their RTX sales. The few reviews that are up show how good it really is.

They could also compare it to Taylormade high toe & the s23 wedge(which is also really nice)
