New event. Familiar course. Decent sized purse.

Interesting that 24 AJGA junior invitees will be playing along with 120 pros. The cut will be top 50 and ties for the pros, and no cut for the junior players.

Yep, this has blown up over the last couple of days.

This Irish fan has 'tracker' accounts following Leona, Shane Lowry and Seamus Power and usually gives feedback on Twitter for each round of their tournament play. If they are in contention it is hole by hole.

Seems an intense Irish fan but always been +ve until Leona's SF when he posted some critical comments on a number of shots on her back nine. I reckon he must have been very disappointed in her performance and let it impact the strength of his comments, hence her account blocking his account, it will be an action taken by her directly or more likely her management group Modest! Golf (likely her sister Lisa who will always look after Leona's best interests).

Here's a link to more on the subject and what he posted:

https://www.essentiallysports.com/golf-news-lpga-tour-star-slams-the-door-shut-in-unexpected-fashion-to-possibly-her-biggest-fan-leona-maguire/

A summary of the -ve comments.

image.png.8dcc3a77f0c53bb865e7f69a439c43b2.png

A few of Leona's Twitter fans have asked her to remove the block - we shall see.

I guess it says a lot about how -ve comments can affect a player's mindset, maybe -ve branding impact also.

She had a fine event making the SF's but wasn't typical Leona on the back 9 but that isn't fair on Ayaka's excellent play.

@Whoa Nelly

Big week for Annie and Yealimi; only Top-50 and ties will make the cut.  The silver line is they'll get healthier prize money and CME Globe points once they make the cut.

More confident in Annie making the cut, too much delicious Korean food in NYC, which will distract Yealimi!

Yealimi spent a lot of time after the Founders Cup in the City and surrounding area; partly to help promote GolfZone and also to enjoy the city.  I'm surprised that I didn't happen to bump into her on the streets!

You're right, compared to Annie, Yealimi seems to take the fine things in life a lot more seriously.

My field rating for this event is a pretty solid 68.5 %.
My breakdown is 75.5 from the LPGA Priority List and 61.5 from the Rolex Rankings.
Seven of the top ten players in the Rolex World Rankings will be teeing it up this week.
The field will be led by top ten players:
Jin Young Ko
Lydia Ko
Lilia Vu
Minjee Lee
Atthaya Thitikul
Brooke Henderson
Georgia Hall
Top ten players skipping the event are:
Nelly Korda
Lexi Thompson
Hyo-Joo Kim

Monday qualifiers:
Alexa Pano 65 (-7)
Sarah Jane Smith 68 (-4)

Other stuff:
Pajaree Anannarukarn's victory this past weekend was the first by a Thailand player this year. It was the second victory of her LPGA career.
Cheyenne Knight has had top ten finishes in the last three events.

Lilia Vu continues to lead in the race for Player of the Year. She has 94 points. Jin Young Ko is second with 75.
Hae Ran Ryu leads in the Rookie of the Year race with 276 points. Grace Kim is second with 205.

There wasn't many big moves in this week's Rolex Rankings.
Jin Young Ko holds the No.1 spot by a very narrow margin over Nelly Korda. With Nelly skipping this week's event, Jin Young should maintain her spot this week unless Lydia Ko is victorious.
Pajaree Anannarukarn makes the biggest jump by far, leaping from No. 97 to No. 65.
Other moves by LPGA players:
Angel Yin 42-38
Albane Valenzuela 79-75
Outisde the top 100:
Perrine Delacour 126-117
Lindsey Weaver-Wright 155-135
Daniella Darquea 188-173

Random, useless factoid.

The name Mizuho is not just a Japanese word from the past as posted in some websites. It was the given name of the late wife of the chairman of one of the three companies that merged to form the Mizuho holding company. He fought to have the holding company named for his late wife as part of the merger.

One was a bankrupt securities firm, one was a near-failed bank and two were involved in a scandal of large loans to the yakuza (Japanese mob). All this happened during the collapse of the Japan stock bubble around Y2K time. I got to read about it and see it on the news constantly then.

Which Zhang will prevail, Rose or Angela:

Range setup is a bit different.

1st tee is to left of driving range.

Adjacent and behind driving range tees is the putting green.

On right of range is media tent and dining. Other side of media tent is the 10th tee shuttle transport vans.

On diagonal right of driving range is the short game practice area including deep pot type bunkers.

Range and practice area seemed more focused and serious today.

As course is new for everyone and a different architect (Cupp/Kite vs classic), theres alot to learn over 6,656-yard, par-72 and seven par 4s measuring over 390 yards.

Seems the ever present wind definitely made a strong showing today and is forecasted late in the tournament. Much of the course is open, exposed and close to the upper bay that connects to the Hudson River.

Besides great view of statue of liberty is the full view of the NY bight, often with Staten Island ferry in backdrop to the Verrazano Bridge.

Unfortunately, today it was a bit foggy as the marine layer settled in with a chilly high of only 66f.

Anything and everything korean is in Edison.

There's only 5 major national korean/asian full sized grocery stores.

You can pick from multiple food courts, korean bbq/hotpot, etc. in strip malls & blocks that surround each of the large grocery stores.

@Rapidcat = correct about the LPGA's sloppiness (mentioned recently in the Matchplay thread).

Look at how they can't even get their tweets correct w.r.t. tagging their new title sponsor.

https://twitter.com/MizuhoLPGA

(kinda a big deal, in a tweet!  i.e. not "@MizhuoLPGA").
