Scotty Cameron Packaging

What type of packaging should new Scotty Cameron Putters come in? I just purchased a new one from a very reputable online golf shop and it showed up thrown in a shipping box with some brown kraft paper around it and the headcover loose. The plastic was on the grip and the little protector sticker on the sole. It was also pretty nicked up on the top leading edge among other places and looks like it’s been thrown around for 3 years.

 

Last one I bought several years ago came in a Scotty Cameron sealed bag. So how should a new Scotty be packaged these days? I’m currently exchanging emails with them now but wondering what I should expect if I purchase one elsewhere.

Nope. Like I said in the post, it had several nicks and looked like it had been thrown around. When I buy something like a Scotty I expect original packaging….. So I’m just wondering what that is.

 

Plus, I didn’t say box, but in the past they came in a sealed bag with the headcover in the bag with the putter.

They aren't delivered to retailers in the "yellow box" like they are from the custom shop. They show up in a plain brown box with several in there at the same time (with the headcovers on.) I've never seen one delivered in the plastic bag unless it was drop shipped directly from Titleist. I work in golf retail (I have a suspicious about who you ordered from based on the packaging you described) and can tell you that it was most likely shipped from a brick and mortar store that had it on display, not from a distribution center or from Titleist directly. 

 

All that said, it's no excuse to send you a putter that shows shop wear. I'd request a refund and purchase from somewhere else.

My X5 came in a plastic bag and was put into a store branded box. Headcover was on it and it was in perfect shape. Agreed with comments above. Shop wear for full price is unacceptable unless disclosed or marked as demo.

Thank you for the response. I don’t care to say, it is from Carl’s Golfland. I’ve had great transactions with them in the past but they seem to be slipping. I agree it seems like it has been in a brick and mortar store.

 

In full disclosure it is a Special Select so it’s probably been there for a while but IMO if it’s advertised as new it should be in perfect condition. I mean they could have at least put the headcover on for shipping. It was just odd, especially for a SC.

I'd send it back and request either a refund or replacement if it was damaged.

 

If ordering from a retail store (or non-Titleist online retailer) then it's probably just going to come in a standard brown box like the one you received. Whoever packs it up might put the headcover on it and pack it carefully or they may not. Just sort of a toss up...

Yup, I ship orders to customers (including Camerons) and am very aware of the expectations I'd have for any purchase, much less a $400+ putter. Seems like a no brainer to at least send it in the headcover. If that's the only one they had left it should at least be communicated to you about the condition or just don't fulfill the order and issue a refund. Even list it as a demo at a reduced price so you know what you're getting. I have always had great experiences with Carl's in the past but it's primarily been apparel purchases. It's unfortunate but hopefully they make it right for you!

Got it. I only ask as over the past few years they've been known to sell what appear to be floor demos as new with online orders. It sounded like their MO, not sure if Carls operates in the same manner or not, but what you described sounds more like a floor model putter.

 

I do believe I heard of someone getting a putter from Carls in a similar unprotected fashion recently. Not sure why some retailers do that.

Yeah I’m in contact with them about it but they take a while to respond. The frustrating part is I used a floor model at an Edwin Watts that had been getting demoed for 3 years, when I asked the guy if he’d knock a little off of it he laughed at me so I didn’t purchase it on principle. If he’d just been respectful about it and said “nah man I’m sorry I can’t” I’d have purchased it that day. It had a few issues but better than the one I received from Carl’s.

I bought a Scotty from them and I was concerned about getting a floor model, but mine came brand new in the bag.  Sorry to hear you did get a floor model.  I hope they make it right.  Only way I’d buy one off the floor is if it was immaculate.  Certainly wouldn’t pay $400 for the abuse I have seen on some of them.

This is why we keep them locked up where I work. It isn't about them being stolen, it's about the wear and tear from everyone picking them up and doing god knows what with them. Obviously guys that frequent this page know how to respect a putter but that's about 1% of the population. Not just rolling putts (which is fine) but banging them against the ground, knocking them against other putters, leaving them laying whenever. I'll unlock the case for anyone that wants to see them but it prevents people from just grabbing whatever they want when they have absolutely no intention of buying.

Why would you ship any putter that comes with a head cover not on the putter ?

and wrap the grip end with paper at least. That's just poor customer service.

Ditto with the other comments, I’d give them the opportunity to make it right as for the price, you should get a pristine putter
