US Open Tickets - Lack of Demand?

Of course, now I'm completely jealous of you having played it, haha.

LACC is a great course.  I also love how they have the native vegetation and barranca.  That being said I might like Riviera even more.  If they’d only restore it and remove the kikuyu!  LA has great private golf, that’s for sure.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the venue location. Have not played LACC personally but been to LA enough times to know that getting anywhere is a PITA.

Living in downtown Kansas City and just having the draft here a month ago proved that even in mid-major markets like KC with a population of 2.5 million, an influx of people in one small area is not ideal.

Then add 20 million in LA proper, makes you wonder if the juice just ain't worth the squeeze.

This has to be part of it I can't see a lot of non residents making the trip, I will honestly never step foot in that area unless I have a tee time at LACC or Riviera.

Yep.  I don’t have the passport 😂.   It sounds sarcastic or bad I guess. I almost typed the same thing you did earlier.  I’d turn it down if I had the  airfare , room and meals covered. With free tickets to get in. I’d probably pay not to go in fact.

Having just attended multiple days at the PGA Championship, because it's my home, I can say definitively that I wouldn't travel to attend a golf tournament, especially a megalopolis like LA. Obviously there are thousands that do I'm just not one of them.

You live in Rochester?    Let me guess - Penfield / Fairport area?

I think you overestimate peoples  willingness to travel to LA.

Having lived there for 14 years; there's nearly nothing that would get me to go to LA again 😂

Ugh, that Wilshire/SM Blvd corridor between BH and SM is a damn nightmare getting around and through. (Used to work there years back and dealt with it on the daily)

I'm actually surprised those very welcoming denizens of Beverly Hills are willing to let anyone in - prolly explains the pricing.

Funny that I’m going and if it were in Texas or the Midwest I wouldn’t be!… But I’m probably a bad example as I also like joggers 🤷🏼‍♂️

I am in OC, 38 miles away. I will not drive to this area. Traffic is always a nightmare. It usually takes 2 hours to drive the 38 miles distance. Plus the logistic of parking, getting a shuttle, line up to get through the gates. I will watch it from home.

You clearly understand the value of your time.

And of all majors, the US Open is my least favorite; US Masters, PGA, British in that order.

Hey. It’s culture shock either way.  To me 125 people is a crowd.  I go days and only talk to you guys.  And I love it that way. I’d say ma’am to the wrong person , and next thing you know we’re going viral 😂.

besides. It’s not us hating on LA.  Apparently it’s everyone per the ticket sales 😇

I like the US Open because it is one I can usually get to. Being in PA I get Oakmont and maybe a main line Philly course. I try for the Masters every year but we all know how the lottery usually goes. PGA doesn't seem to get my way often but I will try Aronimink in 2026.

You’d have to assume if they can’t sell tickets, the tickets are overpriced.  Supply and demand are such that market forces are reducing the price via the secondary market even though the prices officially charged is the same.

Why isn’t there an overwhelming demand for tickets at $300 a pop?  The answer seems obvious and not disputable…people don’t value the tickets more than they value their $300.

This raises a question I’ve never thought about.  It’s obvious that every addition of a dollar to the total number of dollars you have deceases the individual (subjective) value of each dollar you have.  It would seem possible that every addition of a dollar to the price you have to pay for something would increase the (subjective) value of each indivisible dollar you have to pay.  Which is another way to posit a mechanism by small increases in price can torpedo sales.

I would guess a lot of the Californians who would pay $300 now live in Texas.

Ha ha. I’ll have you to know I use a 3m fresh air respirator hood ….. filters out anything larger that about 400 microns.  Although you can’t find the specs listed anymore since 2020.   And it’s literally one of the best masks made.

Looks like the USGA / LACC released a ton of additional tickets, causing aftermarket prices to tank. Supply was extremely limited (and sold out on the USGA site) until recently. I was monitoring StubHub over the last few weeks, and weekend GA tickets were running $400+ a pop, but now down to $200+. Glad I didn't pull the trigger earlier!

If LA is so horrible and everyone hates it… Why so much traffic??? 🤔

Kinda reminds me of that Yogi Berra quote “No one goes there nowadays, it’s too crowded”. 😂

*I’m just being silly. It’s fine by me if ppl hate it and I get it! 😇

I’ve been to southern CA maybe 25 times in my life.  All different months and times of the year.  The weather is just unbelievable there, so many bluebird sky days, mostly comfortable temps, light breezes. I’ve always lived in a cold climate so the year round good weather still blows my mind.  I get why so many damn people want to live there.  And that is the problem, so many damn people.

I was surprised at the lack of good public golf.  And not surprised at the 6 hour rounds.  I really enjoyed Torrey, Maderas, Olivas Links (I really love this place), Sterling Hills (cool layout conditions can be spotty) and Moorpark.  I can only imagine how amazing some of the upper end private clubs are.

For people who can make the housing and financial side work, don’t have to commute much and have access to a nice private club, it has to be close to heaven.  🍻

Yeah, why I live in NorCal 😊 Tons of great public courses. I have (counting in my head) about 12/15 within 15 minutes of my house. Own my home and retired at 43. So yeah, it’s pretty close to heaven for me. I totally get why ppl hate on it for the reasons you stated. No problem, I have a do what works for you attitude 😇

Speculation or you heard this somewhere? Pretty sketchy move if they really did that.

I think you’re right.  Was going to sell a couple tickets (I’m not a scalper!) but the USGA just cut my legs.  Losing my behind.  Thanks USGA!
