LA Country Club projected to be toughest US Open ever. Winning score might be +10

Wasn’t Erin Hills supposed to play really tough?  BK winner at -16.  These are guys are just too good.

Gary Woodland won at -13 at Pebble.  Last 3 years winners all won at -6.

I think Brookline last year was one of the best US Open set ups that I could remember. Course was tough but you could shot a good number. Also thought the course was amazing aesthetically. The USGA has clearly figured out something because the last 2 years have come right down to the wire

the toughest thing about LACC is getting past the membership committee, next to Lakeside and Bel Air CC, they had the most stringent membership qualification requirements in the southland , they were so tough that published copies of the those requirements are known to exist in the same vault that contains the Ten Commandments...I got an invitation to play Bel Air once with a member's son, and in the parking lot some guy tried to give me his clubs thinking I was the new cart boy...I never got a second invitation

Dang that’s harsh.  The privates are so good here but it’s not easy to get in, that’s for sure.

Erin Hills played as a par 72 for the US Open. Erin Hills played tougher than what the winning score finished at. Go back and look at how many top players missed the cut.

I think the OP underestimates how good these guys are.  Plus they are using 460 drivers with pro V and Ventus.  The course would need to be around 8,800 yards to present the same distance challenge as back in the golden age.

Tough?  Looks like a leaderboard from Waste Management Open

If the USGA played EH as a par 70 as they do at many US Open sites all of the scores you listed above would be 8 shots lower against par. So a range of -4 to even par. BK would have been -8. Would that have been so bad? FWIW when BK won at EH at -16 his 4 round stroke total wasn't the lowest in US Open history. Regardless of what par was attached to it.

In case you forgot EH cut down the rough before the first round due to player complaints and the course was wet with wide fairways.

If EH was so easy as you seem to think then how did Rory, Rahm, JDay, Justin Rose, Henrik, Adam Scott, Francesco Molinari, Bubba, DJ, BDC, etc all miss the cut? I mean the course was obviously so easy all those top players couldn't have missed the cut right?

Every US Open has players that you don't think much of finish well in the event. So in 2017 I guess Hideki, Fleetwood, Xander, JT and even Rickie weren't representative of good players playing well in the event?

After a few years of some semblance of competence am I the only one that is hoping for the USGA to revert back to full on Shinnecock mode just for the sheer ridiculousness of it all?!

Goosen's putting on that final day was probably one of the best clutch performances especially on those greens.

It's the USGA, so the potential for inter-group green-dousing and 18th-at-Olympic-esque miss a 3-footer and it's off the green farcical scenes will surely be there.

We've had a few low-scoring US Opens lately, so the USGA's irrational phobia of red numbers will potentially be back with a vengeance so that we can party like it's 1974.

Having watched Walker Cup on TV, it does look tough but the pros are so good. I can see winning score at around -5 or so. I would love to see 15th hole play as a 78 yard par 3. It gave lot of Walker Cuppers fits.

LACC is going to get sliced and diced by the pros, its going to be overcast in the morning wave by what we know here in SoCal as June gloom and the sun will  finally break later in the afternoon, there will be little to no wind and unless they watered it and put away the mowers they cant grow the rough to USOPEN standards, its going to play like a cross between Riviera just a few miles away and not quite like Torrey two hours away. We are going to have to listen to announcers pontificate about the famed George Thomas design built in the 1920's, but us locals know it as the golf course off Wilshire Blvd near Century City, where people now drive their Tesla's, and the wait staff at all the restaurants are all working on a screen play, or waiting to be cast in the next Taylor Sheridan saga...whats your dream, this is Hollywood...everybody here has a dream

Who “projected” this US Open to be the toughest ever….and winning score of +10?

OK, that’s ridiculousness worthy of ESPN.

I don't ask for it often but I do miss the days of carnage! If the USGA fail me, I can only hope that the R&A employ Carnoustie 1999 tactics at Liverpool next month.
