Could a 4 handicap beat Billy Horschel ?

Rough day for BH yesterday !  I’m going to say that a non-vanity 4, that isn’t a popcorn hitter, and plays fast greens,me yesterday only, could’ve played incredibly well and beaten Billy straight up

 

i personally know some 4’s that COULD pull it off and others that have zero chance

Not a humble brag, but as a reference, I have in fact played MV from the tips and shot 79.   This was with two fatted short irons into greenside ponds on short par 4’s.  When I went around there I marvelled that a human could be -20 over 72 holes.

Maybe if BH played left handed.  I believe that with the pressure of actually playing that type of match the 4 would crack, no matter how poorly (for him) BH was playing.

Correct.  4 capper shoots around 78-80, right? On a 72/125 ish course?

 

Put a 4 capper on muirfield at nearly 7600 with thick rough and 13 stumped greens....NO WAY. BH shot what, 85? 4 capper barely breaks 95 on that course

No way not even on a bad day for Billy. Remember they are professional for a reason. And guys like us are just weekend hacks.

I’m 55 now and forget things

 

a 4 cap at MV is likely a 1.7ish index off the tips if I had to guess

 A 4capper on a very good day could shoot maybe even or the odd 1 under on their HOME track.   But, it's rare.   The stars would have to line up perfectly for a 4 capper to take ole Billy down especially on a long tour course with very fast greens.  Not impossible, but totally improbable.

It depends on what the OP is really asking...

 

Could a 4 ever beat Horschel on the same day on the same course with Billy actually playing that day? I say virtually no freaking way. Not without some Tonya Harding tactics in play.

 

But, given that Horschel just shot an 84, is the question instead: would there ever be a 4hcp who scores better than an 84 at MV under a similar course setup? Sure, I can see that as definitely possible - probably even likely given enough rounds played. 

 

But that, in my mind, is not at all equivalent to "beating Billy Horschel".

In the playing conditions of MV right now - There is no way a 4 cap on a good day would shoot 78-83.     With that rough, hard fast conditions, no way.

I am a 4 handicap and when I put MV in the USGA app from Memorial Tees - my playing/course handicap is an 11

With Uncle Cardy involved I would say it is a Pick Bet. I have played golf with him on 2 occasions here and he is a stick. He played my home course 2 years ago and just messing around with me giving him yardages and telling him where to hit it he shot +2 and our greens at the time were not in the best shape. The next day in the shootout we won with -14. The next week without him and us 3 playing an alternate shot for the 4th player won it at -10 so that says something right there. 

BTW Cardy the guys over in the Links Lounge and Clubhouse Grille section do not believe at my age that I still have a full head of long hair with little gray.

I’m not saying you’re playing Billy head to head, you’re in the event on Thursday and the stars align, you make some putts, drive it well and get up and down a handful of times

 

rating is 77.3 / 155, you’re likely a 1 index playing as a 4 cap

 

I’ve played with tour guys, including a 3 time winner in an event for 2 days, I know their crazy mad skills

I hope this isn't a serious question, if so, and you can get a verified ( non bagger) 4 cap in the tourney, I'd wager a huge amount of money.

A 4 shoots 80 more often than he shoots mid-70's.  At home.  On a neutral rated course.  If, somehow, he got into the Memorial, he would be lost.  As a one-off, not at MV, it could happen, but the harder the course, the worse the 4 plays.

I never cried when I shot in the low 80’s. I think I know now why his wife went to rehab for alcohol.
