MP-5s are killer, those are the ones that Paul Casey refuses to give up since they went in the bag in 2017 after Nike.

One of my favorite Mizuno irons. It's just the PW I don't care for. Great looking clubs. 👍

I’m in a really dangerous spot right now. I had hernia surgery yesterday and am laid up for at least 3 weeks with no golf. So of course I am searching the classifieds and the auction sites with an itchy trigger finger to buy clubs!

I happened across a set of new in the box Mizuno MP5s for a really good price and I just had to pull the trigger. They are on the way. I remember these being really nice sticks - beautiful in the bag, great feel, expected performance. Does my memory serve that these will be a nice set to tinker with?

You got one of the new in box sets off ebay, didn’t you?

💯. Such a good iron!  Agree with above, very forgiving for a blade.  Kind of remind me of z945’s.  More club visually down by the ball.  Very inviting and incredible feeling!  One of my favorite blade designs.  So playable.

I did!  I made an offer and the seller accepted. Pretty pumped about them. I’ve been playing some MP32s off and on for a while and was thinking these might be a good “modern” version.

Stunning irons.  I've hit the MP-5, and still have a set of MP-32s in my garage.  That's a good comparison.  hope you get better soon and get them out on the course!

Flushing an "older grain flow forged" MP blade can be highly addicting....I believe the MP5s were the last batch before boron was added but I could be mistaken.

Don’t know why I sold mine. Equaled my low round with them in the bag a few times.

not sure the spec on dg s300 sl but would imagine maybe like the dg105 out now.   Hope you like them.
I was cruising second swing the other day (I am also down for a few weeks after a surgery)and saw a set with dg s300 (which I do like) but second swing had them a bit to high.   Oh well.  Still loving pings as well.

I think the mp5 is still probably the best mb Mizuno has released in awhile. Certainly better than the recent iterations of MP's we've seen.

I’ve played them all up until the Pro 221s and it is hard to disagree. I played some really nice golf with the MP18s, but was underwhelmed by the MP20s and the 221s that I have hit indoor. Not sure I’m digging the feel with the new copper underlayer.

My favorite was the MP4, and I’m very fond of the MP32 and MP14. I’m anxious to try these again and see how they stack up. They certainly look the part.

I keep saying give me the mp5 3-7 iron and mp4 8-pw. If voshall made that set with copper, he'd never need to design another set, it would sell forever! But instead we'll get mb's that resemble tiny Titleist mb's, and the jpx tour line becoming a tiny cavity back harder to hit than an mb. I don't get it. I guess srixon is filling the niche of great feeling, good looking and still offering a bit of forgiveness in their players lines. I just don't like their v sole.

They look great and feel great.  Very nice clubs if you are looking for a MB.  But I’m going to disagree with most, I don’t think it is very forgiving at all compared to any other blade.  I played them for about five years and wished from the beginning I got the MP 4 instead.  I liked the look better and wouldn’t have been giving up any forgiveness.

There's almost no difference in MOI between the MP4 and MP5.  Or, the MP18, MP20, Pro 221, etc.  Even the MP32 that so many seem to love, about the same.

The CG placement is a little different, but very little difference between the MP4 and MP5 (762 vs 789).  The MP18 went pretty high at 849, but they brought it back down with the MP20 (771).

The most forgiving Mizuno might be the MP33.  Its tested MOI is only marginally higher than the MP4 or MP5, but the test clubhead was *very* light (247g).  Bring that weight up to a "normal" 5 iron and the MOI is likely in the Nike blade range (over 12 oz-in²).

Fun fact, MP33 are conforming.

The MP32 is a much smaller head size, and has significantly thinner topline than the MP5.

I think the reason that the MP5 wasn't too popular with Mizuno fans was that the head size was big, but since that time Mizuno has gone to bigger head sizes for I believe all their newer iron designs. I think the MP4 was the last time Mizuno made a traditional/relatively small head size.

the 221 is smaller than the MP4 I think or very close. I think the MP18s were pretty small as well. The MP5 was based off a cavity back iron blank that was then ground into a larger muscle back iron.
