Taylormade TP Reserve putters!!!

Oh man, just happened to be at our local golf store when the TM rep was introducing the new line of TP Reserve putters to the staff. Finally, TM has a putter line that rivals Cameron putters. They have a model for everyone from an old school blade with a goose/flow neck to a fanged-style mallet putter. All with no inserts and classy black head covers. I wanted to take some pics but wasn't allowed to.

The model I was most interested in was their version of the Newport 2 Notchback (NB). I think it was called the TR-B21 and in my book is an improved version of Scotty's NB. Little thicker from front (face) to back like all the new "+" models Cameron has been ushering out. The weight was good but I will have to order extra weights separately since they cannot be ordered heavier. The finish looked nicer than anything they offered in the past and the feel was really solid. The face had some horizontal lines similar to Bettinardi Studio Stock line. I believe they are going to be offered at $400 which is inline with today's premium putters. It's going to be a long wait for me as they won't be out until September.

I tried them in my pro shop a couple weeks ago. They are very nice but don’t really compare to a Scotty. On the right track just need a little more refinement; would be comparable to a Toulon imho.

I’m hearing late August embargo date, so “in store” September makes sense.  I hope sooner, because I will be getting the flow neck blade on the first day it is offered.

Gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. I play a flow neck blade (think Newport 2.5 before Scotty changed the neck to a short slant) and the one I rolled had a better feel (butter butter butter) than my 2.5 or my flow neck Soto, and the Pure Roll groves that have been milled directly into the face put a great roll on the ball. Plus the look is understated and classy.

It may not sell as well as Scotty because it doesn’t have the Cameron name on it, but TM has engineered a fantastic premium fully milled putter line. And anyone looking for that type of putter should definitely roll one before deciding.

Toulon's are nicer than Scotty - so where does that leave the TM, then?

Well it’s kinda subjective but I get what you’re saying. They felt good but I’d still prefer a premium Scotty over a TM. Toulon’s feel amazing also but I haven’t been able to add one to the collection. Bettinardi has fun designs but I haven’t found a nice feeling one yet. I always end up going back to the Scotty.

I’d like to add a Miura km2 to the collection but I’ll be in Japan in a couple weeks so maybe I’ll come across

something neat there.

At this point I’m putting so well with the NP2+ I don’t think any blade shape will beat it for me and I’d really be interested in getting a circle T.

People actually trying these in their pro shop, yet not one image exists on the internet? Yes im jealous, but also confused lmao

TM rep was guarding them like a hawk and didn’t allow photos.

They are brand new products so I wouldn’t be rushing to drop premium dollars for them. I did enjoy rolling them though.

The new Scottys are straight up trash. Whenever I see someone putting with a new OTR Scotty, I can't help but wonder how you get suckered by Scotty Cameron. Whenever I watch a video of Scotty describing his own putters, he actually sounds like a snake oil salesman.

Not everything has to be so extreme. Sure his marketing is over the top, but his brand is worth a lot. And even if I wasn’t playing one, I wouldn’t say they are straight up trash because that’s just ignorant. They are better or worse than any other premium milled product.

That’s like saying the Rolex Submariner is trash just because you think the Omega Seamaster is better.

No offense, but who the hell cares how much his brand is worth? I only care if the putter helps me get the ball in the hole. Scotty got blessed by Tiger Woods and he ran with it. Good for him, but again, only suckers will buy his new OTR putters. There's a reason why recent OTR Scotty Camerons are pretty much non-existent in competitive golf. Go to any collegiate event and check out what the kids are using (you'll see an abundance of TM Spiders, Odysseys, Bettinardis,).

Truth is that Scotty used to make pretty quality putters like 20 years ago, but you are delusional if you think the current "special select" crap he puts out is even close to the ones he made before.

Like if anyone has a shred of critical thinking and pays attention to what Scotty Cameron is actually saying, you'll see that this guy says the same vague BS every release.  Also, this commercial is such a joke, I seriously can't believe people eat this up. Then again, I'm not his demographic.

Like @Kamen just said, not everything has to be so extreme. Everybody realizes that it’s basically the same thing every year, but that doesn’t make it a bad product. I doubt many people feel compelled to upgrade from their 19’ Special Select NPT to the Super Select NP2. But if you’ve never owned a Scotty, or fully a milled 303SS putter, or a certain model, etc. - it’s not like these new putters are a bad option. And how many fully milled putter brands are even there on the market? It’s basically Scotty, Toulon, PLD (which is new), and Betti as far as big name brands go. They’re all priced the same, and not one stands out among the others as either the best or worst in terms of quality (Betti’s marketing might be even more corny bye). Yet people seem to only be weird about SC.

You sound like you just can’t get over his corny marketing. We get it, it’s annoying, but whatever. You also sound like you think you know something that we don’t, maybe that’s true for some casuals, but not for us who lurk on these forums my man

Sure, many of his Circlet 009’s, Tour rats, etc. are unique and not what we get OTR: but if you think all of the numerous Golos, Phantoms, and even some of the Newports that we see on Tour every weekend are significantly different than what we get except for a couple ‘SSS’ and CircleT stamps - then you’re the one that’s lacking critical thinking skills. Same damn thing except maybe the milling and sight alignments

To be honest, I am quite biased because I hate everything about his brand like his corny marketing. However, what really pisses me off is how he treats his customers, which perpetuates my dislike towards his brand.

You can easily search up horror stories about dealing with their custom shop, but I've seen it first hand to a dear friend of mine. He's been collecting SC for over 20 years and is a huge SC fan. He sent in his gamer (Newport 2 Studio Style)to refurbish the club, new grip, etc. Keep in mind it's not cheap at all to ship internationally to SC as he is not in the US. These elitist jackoffs basically told him that nothing can be done because he cut down the shaft from 34 to 33. Literally everything else about the putter was the same but the length (same grip, OG paintfill, etc.). Not only did they not do anything, he was basically out over a hundreds bucks due to shipping the putter back and forth. Needless to say, he sold a lot of his collection after that experience.  Makes you wonder what will happen if you ever dare get TXG to adjust the loft/lie angle of the putter. Will Mr. Cameron reject that as well? The fact it's even a possibility shows how stupidly strict his policies are.

In addition to the way he treats his customers, Scotty Cameron has put literally minimal effort in his OTR putters. Don't be naive, he knows what everyone wants (a dot or line at the topline). You know why he doesn't give you that option? It's because he knows some idiot is going to spend 5-10x the price for limited putter that has that feature and like you said, it practically the same. If this is the kind of company and brand you want to support, by all means go for it. Just know that they really don't give AF about you or the consumer.

Although I recently had a bad experience with the Gallery I don’t have anything personally against Scotty.  That being said I’d like to see a Titleist putter lineup that is separate from Cameron.  I am a Titleist fanboy admittedly and would much rather see their script in the cavity than the holes.  Just looks cleaner.

your friend has been collecting Scotty’s for 20 years and was unaware the custom shop won’t touch a putter with a cut down shaft?

😂😂😂

very, very common knowledge. I would guess over 99.9% of 20+ year Cameron collectors know this.

Everyone can agree that the custom shop is a joke, it's kind of common knowledge to avoid the CS at all costs. I can't understand the reasoning behind rejecting a putter has been cut-down...But to your second point, do you really think Scotty is the only OEM that withholds OTR options (i.e. sight-lines) to get people to pay extra for a limited-run, or a CircleT? Betti does the same, Swag is brand new and they're already doing the same, PLD is obviously withholding OTR options to get people to pay for an entire custom fitting, Toulon has the small-batches; or you can pay an extra $250 for a sight-line through the Toulon Garage (which is probably the most consumer friendly option out there tbh). The list goes on. One difference, though, is that Scotty's limited-runs and CircleT's actually hold their value unlike the rest.

And I own one Scotty from 2012 (an OTR Golo), I'm not some brand advocate here lol. But it just amazes me that people can get so pressed about SC and act like other brands don't do the same bs

I stand corrected. A buddy claims they expect a small batch of these to hit stores in 2 weeks. Custom options and full release in Sept.

I would love to believe this but with no visuals on tour it’s hard to believe. I can’t imagine they would expect any players to switch at a major either.
