I've heard a few years back that Phil has earned in the neighborhood of $700M in his long career, roughly half of what Tiger has.  A conservative investment portfolio would yield about 6%, thus $40M+/yr.  Add Saudi money and he could be close to a billion.

You forgot taxes, especially when he was in CA would have been close to 50%. Caddy fees, coaches fees, travel fees, living expenses,  and gambling.

Purely as a hypothetical exercise, let's speculate on what Phil's returns could have been if he had, let's say, a track record of investing in promising ventures via an inside man in the financial markets.

It will be interesting to read what Billy Walters has to say in his upcoming book, Mickelson certainly will be a big part of it. Walters and Mickelson were gambling friends, Walters was sentenced to 5 years in prison for insider trading that Mickelson was also involved in but wasn't prosecuted for.

I’m left handed so all my friends back in the day just assumed I was a huge Mickelson fan.  When I said no, I can’t stand him, there is just something very off about him, they thought I was nuts.  “He’s such a nice guy, I mean look at how he’s all about his family too, how the hell can you not like him” they said.

 

I finally feel vindicated these last number of years.  See he is a d word!
