State your glove/hand size and grip style: over, inter, 10

Recommended Posts

Curious as to how people's glove/hand size correlates to their grip style. Overlap, interlock, 10 finger.

I have big hands and long slender fingers (use midsize grips). I have been taught to use the overlap grip but I always feel like something is moving in my swing. Have been testing out 10 finger and interlock and feel my right hand (right handed golfer) feels more connected to the club. The ring and middle finger feel more pressed along the side of the club handle.

Thanks for reading.

I, too, have large hands, wear a large glove, and use Vardon grip for most shots, and switch to Reverse Overlap for all specialty & wedge shots, and when using putter.

I have small hands, wear a cadet ML. Use MMC +4 grips. My grip is pretty unique, I interlock but the thumb on my left hand wraps around the shaft instead of going down the shaft. (if that makes any sense).

Cadet M, short fingers for sure.  Currently overlap, but grew up interlocking, and will now play 10 finger when the mood descends.  Pitch shots are hit with a 10 finger cross-handed grip.  10 finger grip at all times when going lefty, also when pitching cross-handed from that side as well.  Currently using GP Tour Wrap, but dabbling (again) with MCC +4 standard & midsize, trying to find just the right size & taper.

Glove size: M or cadet M, depending on cut of production run.

Wrist to middle finger: 7.5"

Club Grip: Winn Dri-Tac, Midsize.

- Used to put extra three wraps under low hand of wedge grips, but quit doing it.

- Played Golf Pride CP2 Wrap - Midsize - for a season, but lower was too thick and I started leaving shots out to right.

Hand Grip: Interlock, gives more even grip pressure.

I have non-standard hands. My palms are long, but fingers normal length. When I used to spar in martial arts, I would have to put an extra four wraps across palms to take up slack. Otherwise, I would sprain back of hand due to insufficient finger fill.

Switched from overlap to interlock because of arthritis in the little finger of the left hand. I'm right handed and use Tour Velvet 360 Midsize on all  my clubs. I do wear a glove, either ML or L depending on the brand and model.

Smaller hands. Cadet m/l. Lamkin crossline wrap plus grip. Basically +2 on the lower hand.

I use an interlock grip. I like overlap grip but I tend to since down to hard on the down swing. Pinching the inner finger of the overlap. Strikes are usually pretty good though.

Big hands with shorter fingers especially the pinky. XL cadet glove. midsize grip with 3+ wraps or standard with 8+ wraps. Always use overlap or Vardon (they the same right?) tried interlocking when young but always felt that pinky finger not stable and the weak link in the grip. Never had issues with stability of grip since overlapping.

Long fingers and a small palm. Wear a Small size glove since I like them extremely tight (although it cuts down on my use they stretch a lot quickly). A medium would fit fine but I don’t find it snug enough.

Interlock grip.

I have settled on GP TVC Midsize grips. I just spent the last few weeks testing out all different sizes and wraps. I had been playing TVC 58R 1+1, then tried a 60R no wraps, 58R 2 wraps left 3 wraps right, 58R 3 wraps left 4 wraps right. Decided to try a midsize and love how it feels lower hand. If it could be a wrap smaller in the upper hand it would be great but no matter how many times I try to create that it never feels right. Might I need to try it with 60R grips instead of 58R and just use more wraps.

8" wrist to middle finger

L to XL glove depending on brand

Grip Master Midsize

Overlap grip

I started playing interlocked at 10 yrs old, moved to 10 finger after high school in an effort to remedy my chronic slice. Played that until I hit 40 and tried the overlap grip. Been there ever since.

7 3/4” wrist to middle finger

I wear a Small glove. I like them to be pretty tight and form fitting. I can’t stand any wrinkles in the glove.

Standard size grips MCC+4

All though, I will soon be experimenting with Standard size Pure Combo grips.

Interlock. My dad showed me this grip when I was about 10 years old. Granted I didn’t really play until I was older but that’s just the grip I always knew. I have tried others in more recent years but it feels very alien and I don’t have a good reason to change it so interlock it remains.

8.25" wrist -> middle finger. Overlap grip as an interlock feels uncomfortable with longer/skinnier fingers and I hate losing the connection from my top hand index finger.

Large glove usually, although this will depend on brand as they vary.

I build up Tour Velvet 58 grips to something that is between a midsize and "+4" type of grip depending on the shaft diameter and taper. It basically ends up being like a midsize grip with something like +2 under the bottom hand and -2 under the top hand, but that again depends on that shaft since butt diameters and taper rates are all over the place.

I'm built like a T-rex, short arms and small hands. Glove is cadet S.

Grip style is interlock. Actually prefer a standard or midsize grip (currently use GP TV +4). Feel like I need to use too much grip pressure with an undersize grip.

Cadet Large gloves.

Midsize (+1/16"), reduced taper (Lamkin "plus") grips.

Predominantly use 10-finger grip but will sometimes overlap for shorter clubs or less then full shots.

FWIW

I learned using overlap and played that way for many years.  Only went to 10 finger due to injury of the lower (right) hand ring finger.   Now it's the norm - never went back full time even after the injury wasn't an issue any more.

For me, the 10-finger grip definitely helped increase the contribution of the lower (right) hand to the release and swing - improving face control.  Most of the time that's a good thing for me - especially back then.  As my swing has improved somewhat - it's still a good thing most of the time for full swings but sometimes the right hand can get a bit overactive and cause problems.

I dont use a glove, when i did it was Medium Cadett (i like them TIGHT)
Interlock grip, and Lamkin Crossline JUMBO or New Decade MID with asymmetrical built up (straiten out the taper)

My own charts based on Tom Wishons recs, is good as a starting point, but i found it to be MINIMUM for grip size, since larger works just fine, while smaller hardly ever doo. This chart sends med to "standard" plus 2 x 0.015 layers of BU tape = 0.930", but im using Jumbo who is 1.020" (6 layers more than the chart)

My conclution is, Grips can be too small, but hardly ever too large, so dont be affraid to try larger than the chart or what ever you are used to.
