Is Greg Norman a Casualty?

From what I read, it doesn't seem like Greg Norman has a seat on the new Board of Directors or any function in the merged leagues?

Did the Saudis dispense with him in order to get the deal done?  

Does anyone know?

I have thought for some time that the annoyance with Norman was not just Monohan, but the Saudis have been annoyed with him for a while.

I think they bought into his plan, but never understood that Norman was never going to be able to work with the PGA, and that Norman’s goal was not the creation of a profit earning business, that his goal was just to hurt the PGA.

The Saudis always wanted to work with the PGA Tour. They tried to do it a few years ago and the PGA Tour rejected the offer.

 

I think Saudi & Norman were using each other. Norman has had an axe to grind with the PGA Tour for 30 years. He was using the Saudi money to play out his ego trip against the PGA Tour.

 

The Saudis needed a way to get the PGA Tour to become a willing partner. Only way to do that was putting major pressure on them, which LIV Golf was able to do. Did they need to hire Greg Norman? Probably not, but I guess they felt like he had the right energy to take on the project at the time.

Greg got his way in having his world tour vision with LIV. But we all knew he wouldn't be part of the solution going forward in uniting anyone or anything. He gets his W and now can fade away.

that remains to be seen this could just be a World Golf Corporation/conglomerate that owns and runs multiple tours all over the world but none of which have events all over the world.

I'm sure he's sipping his GN vintage wine, with his Shark collar turned up and congratulating himself and pretty sure he will let us know how great he was and how much money he made off of this. But to be fair he did pull it off. He lured the talent away, sold the idea to all ears and now has forced the PGAT to take on a significant "investor". Monahan will answer to the money people, and the money people owe Greg a thank you for that. We will probably never hear the end of it.

LIV is dead.  The PGA TOUR/DP TOUR model will be the model going forward.  The only change will be that ALL the designated events will be invitational for the top 80 PGA members.  The "defectors" to LIV will have to pay a huge fine to get back on the PGA tour.  And they will probably have to serve a year in the "penalty box".  Look for them to be back(if they pay the fine) in Jan 2025.

not sure this is the right forum for this…. But I doubt the designated will be invitational… there will be a qualification for it, winners of non designated events will get in, and bottom end will move out.   Top 30-40 will all be there for 4 days, but the rest will be playing in and out based on performance.

Money talks, hence the head of the PIF being the chairman of the organization.  The players currently on LIV will be back on tour next season.  The only penalty they will probably face is not being part of the PIP and they could care less.  I would guess the criteria for some (did they resign or not) will be whether they still have exemptions from the time they left.

His impact on the Aussie players can't be underestimated. Cut some serious legs out taking The Open champion and his buddies. It gave LIV credibility and stole a lot of prestige from the PGA tour.
