Underrated: srixon

 

Overrated: have to be between callaway and titleist

Oh hey been a few weeks since one of these threads. But why we always gotta sh*t on a brand? Just cause their stuff doesn't work for you doesn't mean it's bad.

 

Underrated: Cobra.

I agree. Just tried some of their XV balls from the recent golf galaxy deal and they are great.

Underrated: Wilson...hear me out on this.

Their Staff forged irons are exceptional, as are the wedges.

The DynaPower (or however they spell it) drivers and woods got glowing reviews amongst the YouTuber crowd.

The Staff ball performs as well as anything else available.
Their milled putters are also understated, classy, and flat out perform.

How about “under appreciated” ?
 

Used to be - Srixon. If you’ve seen much PGA coverage lately, half of it looks like a Srixon commercial. The Big4 can’t be all that happy.

 

Currently - TaylorMade. TM seems to be the only company that’s bringing any real innovation to market. Most of the rest appear too busy raking in the mass profits to produce anything new.

 

Currently - Graphite Design. Ventus is the king pig, with justification. For the non-tour level player, GD offers at least as much benefit.

 

Overrated - Titleist. Very good product, though last three product cycles have shown almost no real change across all product lines

Underrated - Nike. For irons, balls and wedges they were about the best out there.

 

Overrated - Ping. Ugly a** clubs that don't seem to perform any better than the alternatives.

I got in on the Father's Day 2+1 deal last year and this year on the XV.  Highly underrated ball for sure.  Only issue I have with them in the cracked seam BUT performance can't be beat.  Luckily, the cracked seam usually appears after 2 rounds for me and honestly, after that many use holes, it needs to be sacrificed to the golf gods.

Overrated: Callaway drivers

Underrated - with the new TE, ts-3, ts-4 and Ts-IM iron releases it’s gotta be Maltby and given cost standpoint it ain’t close. Reminds me of the original Srixon zx 7/5/4 release and how it was so much better than anybody else did that year as a collective (and given their deserved success, Srixon is no longer underrated)

 

Overrated - take your pick

Ball: Maxfli Tour or X (price for performance probably unmatched)

Putter: Sub70 (as good as any metal milled putters out there)

The rest is user choice

Underrated: Srixon - love my z785s and ZU85 - been using Z stars/XV for a long time and just picked up some diamonds to test 

 

Overrated: could make any argument for any of the big OEMs - but I don't think any of them are really overrated. Not like their stuff is any worse than any others

So Titleist goes from one of the slowest ball speed drivers to one of the fastest, but there is no real change?

Since no one has mentioned it, I'm going to say Mizuno, but hear me out, not their irons.  Everything else they make is extremely underrated to me it feels like.  They can't even get into the YouTube comparison videos when people do their 'best of X' stuff, because they aren't viewed as in the conversation.

Underrated: Callaway. Always see threads launched to attack them but if you play their gear you know how good it is. Paradym driver already closing in on 10 wins on the PGA Tour. Apex TCB as good as any CB made. 
 

Overrated: LA Golf. Just not all that great. I don’t think Fujikura, Mitsubishi Chemical and Graphite Design need to worry. And the new LA Golf putters are awful.
