PGA Tour loyalty compensation

Chesson Hadley (297 OWGR) wants to be paid even though he never received an offer from LIV. I'd like to add my name to this list as a PGA Tour loyalists to get paid.

I refused to watch or support LIV so now is the time to send me a bag of cash $$$$$!!!!!

Seriously though, how far down the player list will actually see any compensation?

my guess would be everyone with a card will see compensation. with the low guys getting an amount that covers some of their expenses and the top guys receiving several wins worth.

LOL.  Wouldn't it be a fun turn of events, if the PGA Tour says to LIV big money recipients, you must return those big signing bonuses.

I think it has less to do with character and morals.  Rory, Tiger, and others had no problem taking Middle East money before in appearance fees.  Rory was even sponsored by an Emirates resort company.  They didn't make the jump because they thought remaining on the PGA Tour and keeping their sponsors happy was the safer bet and would pay off in the long run.

Tiger also has physical problems, which put him in a more vulnerable spot than the healthier guys. Would you want someone demanding that you play 14 events per year when you can barely walk 18 holes without major problems? He needed control of his schedule, way moreso than the other players.

You may be right regarding sponsors, but I am not convinced.

There is NO forgive and forget by men like me, when it comes to people connected to terrorism, or enemies, I assure you.  Tiger's dad was an officer in Green Beret, guys I used to train with.  Can't tell me he and his colleagues didn't influence Tiger in the matter.  It's NOT something Tiger talks about, nor does anyone who knows my thoughts on certain people and places in the world.  Tiger also influenced Rory on a number of subjects who knows how that may have influenced Rory.  Remember, UK has been a highly ranked American Ally, including Ireland.

Appearance fees to show up exists at many events for premiere players; it doesn't come with the same litany of long-term contractual & loyalty obligations as the LIV multi-million dollar signing bonus' had.  One doesn't equal the other, nor does taking a sponsor check for a logo, from a Saudi based comm'l entity.  It's NOT a Muslim issue either.  There are many good comm'l entities in Bahrain, Egypt, as well as UAE Dubai, yet some of them may have connections to terrorists.  Thing is, some connections

I think the re-instated LIV guys will not be eligible for PIP money right away, they'll funnel that to the guys that stayed instead.

5 years would probably do the trick of leveling it out. But we'll see how it goes. Saudi guy said on CNBC (twice) that he wants LIV to continue and the two entities to be strategically aligned. I'm not betting against him getting whatever he wants in this deal.

Pure guess, since the PIF claims they're not making any additional investment in the PGAT this year...which I don't believe in the slightest, but w/e.  Anyway, my guess is and has been, that the PIP and FedEx Cup prize pools will get a sizable infusion from the PIF---maybe even doubling/tripling the cash?

Since current LIV players, per the press release from the DPWT head, are neither eligible for reinstatement in the 2023 Season, nor the Ryder Cup, and guessing further that the PGAT will follow suit...that is a large hunk of $$ to give to loyalists who could have jumped for a bag but didn't.  Not as much as they'd have gotten for breaking ranks, but it'd have to do.  Along with grossly inflated purses for the PGAT/DPWT 2024 Season.

That's how I'd do it, were I running things.

Unless you're a TCN slave, but at least Westerners can get their drink, dance, and drive like an a*÷$&ole on in Dubai right?

Just a guess but I’d make the guys that did stay and were “loyal” equity stakeholders in the new for profit business and run it down by PIP. You won a tournament you get a certain percentage. Your tops in PIP you get this much. OR the players unionize and bargain for a share of profits much like the other sports. Now maybe you wouldn’t see an equal split but maybe hey we get 35 percent of profits right off the top plus still play for elevated purses.

The LIV players shouldn't be fined and the PGA players shouldn't be compensated.

Players on both sides made business decisions. On the PGA players side, they had an opportunity to make more money. Purses went up. Designated events were created giving them access to more money (play better!!!) I don't think there was a single event that was cancelled due to LIV, was there? On the LIV players side, fining them and letting them back is too easy. They should be excluded from any sponsors exemptions on any tour for a minimum of 2 years (# of LIV seasons played,) and if they truly want back in, you have to earn it. How? Congrats, you are now Korn Ferry Tour players. Get your card back via the KF Tour or by qualifying for and winning a major. After all.....golf IS a meritocracy, right??? This could also "grow the game" by increasing attendance and eyes at KF Tour events.

Some of that I agree with.  No reason to fine them it the LIV guys should need to start qualifying all over.  AND…if there is a LIV still this year and next they should have to play out their contracts and be ineligible for PGA tour events.
The top guys that were offered big bucks but stayed should be compensated in some form.  Whether it’s called PIP cash or whatever they should be paid.  Without them LIV may have won and this new infusion of cash may not have happened.

Phil? Should not be allowed back at any time.  By his own words he helped create the LIV tour….let his stay there and rot forever.🤬

I really feel for my commercial litigation brethren right now, reading a lot of these no doubt very sincere comments, from likely successful people in their careers. (Given the nature of golf as a hobby.)

How about we not advocate the Tours do anything else that might give rise to any further charges of acting in concert to interfere with competition?  It's a free country, and certainly none of the decision-makers are cruising these threads seeking our advice, but can we do that?

If there were existing discipline/fines measures pre LIV that might be appropriate, sure.  Use them.  I guess.

Or, the Tours can now realize they have access to a truly gigantic sum of money to reward their membership (and executives) with, bury the #&$*#* hatchet already, and stop making things worse.  Which trying to get some petty vengeance upon the people whose defection made this windfall possible, probably will.

But by them playing on the LIV tour in 2023, they will have accrued 0 FedEX Cup points, therefore giving them no status for the next season. I dont see how that is interfering with competition. I am definitely open to other peoples opinions on this, because I think this is a "punishment" that could make the PGA tour players somewhat happy, while "growing the game." 🤣

Where does the buck stop? Now that the PGAT and LIV are making a bed, what about WRX and their ties to the tour?

There is a position where it becomes comfortable to do "business." I get the directly tied to, but it's far more complicated than that.

For e.g. James Piot, agreed.  He didn't have any PGA Tour status to be denied.

For someone like Koepka, OTOH, he has a gazillion exemptions he could use to play wherever he wanted.  Taking those away from those players, I'd think, would be a bad idea.
