Phoenix Area Pros + Fitting?

Hey all, I'd love to get some recommendations (maybe on a slight budget?) for lessons and fitting in the area. Fitting can be anywhere, lessons ideally would be in central or northern Phoenix.

 

I'm looking at some of the instructors that teach at the city courses, but I'm not sure if any of the names in particular people have had a good experience with.

Well....if budget is a concern, N Phx is going to be tough for lessons.   

 

Fittings in AZ are quite odd....very expensive or utter crap...there is not much in between.   But if you don't mind spending a little more, you might as well just go fit by True Spec - they have the widest selection; 

 

For lessons, you may want to see if @fore_life works for you.  He gives lessons for a bologna sandwich and a bag of cheetos.

I'm close to Encanto, but work up north so anywhere between there is pretty convenient.

 

I've swung clubs at Van's a few times and it seems like they give some good advice, but not really a full in depth fitting - just surface level mix and matching clubs and shafts (not bad at all, but I'd love to get super technical with it. Not sure if I'm good enough for that, though).

That's kinda what I mean.   You might get a decent fitting at Vans, PGA SS, Golftech, or 2nd Swing:(I think you still get fitting free if you buy from them) and you might not.

 

With True or Cool Clubs/Hot Stix, you will get to see a lot of combos and data.   But, imo the most important part is you do the fitting outside on a real range.

Looks like those two are in the same range, $500 for a full bag fitting. That's at the level where I'm not sure I'm good enough to get value out of it honestly, but it'd sure be fun.

@Baraethon not sure if you are interested in this but, PXG is offering 75% off on club fittings. Full bag total is $35. Can't beat it and at least you can see some specs.

This is a really good deal but are the fittings at the PGASS comparable to True Spec/Cool Clubs/etc?

Ping has an outdoor fitting area at the Westin Kierland Golf Club, they do a good job and it's free so worth checking out. Obviously limited to Ping and not sure what their summer schedule is like, can schedule a fitting from the Ping web site. Golf Digest comes out with a list of top instructors by state, they have about 30 listed for AZ and most are in the Phoenix area but they will probably be pricy.

This is the way.  I would start here and see if Ping offers a setup you'd like.  If you dont like the clubs/results then you can move to the next option.  But being outdoors and FREE you cant beat this. 

 

PXG does indoor fitting with trackman and its like $50.  Again your limited to PXG clubs.  Although my experience at PXG wasn't the best but could be different for you.

I did this when I bought my G410 irons back in 2019, at the time they did this at both Kierland and a course in Sun City Grand. I also got fitted for a 5-wood by Ping at Papago in 2021. Great experience, outdoors on grass, free, fitter was pretty chill/relaxed. No pressure to buy or any sales pitch whatsoever since they can't actually sell you anything, they give you specs you take to a retailer and order with.

Throwing this into the mix, we offer an indoor fitting studio with taylormade woods, ping woods, srixon irons for now. We also meet or beat all big box prices. Indoor we have trackman and then we can hit clubs outside as well, off mats or grass at the back of the range

That ping deal is great. I have a G400 driver I love so I'd definitely be in the mix for Ping woods at least.

Fore_life, I might have to hit you all up for a fitting too. A little far out of the way for lessons (I work north of 101) but it sounds like a great setup!

We just hired a fitter that came from club champion, young guy who’s a fellow gear head and golf nut as well.
