Course Conditions

Never have I seen a course as bad as the one my son had a practice round at today. Event is next weekend and I'm not sure what they can do about it.  I didn't post any photos from the fairways but I'm not sure there's enough white paint to circle all the ground under repair areas. I'm contemplating pulling my son it's so bad. I did give the tournament director a heads up though so he can expect a bunch of angry parents.

PGA West Nicklaus was in similar condition for the AJGA this year. Is it a Palm Springs thing?

The AJGA Se Ri Pak Desert Junior was at this same course in mid June and I was told the course and greens were in perfect shape. Unbelievable that in 3 months it looks worse than the surface of the moon.

We played Palm Springs open last year on this track, and that time of year its horrible. they let it go to sh!t until overseed next month... Some of the rough areas hadn't been mowed in weeks and grass was above my daughters knee a foot off the fairway. Fairways were dirt patches and greens were horrendous. 

 

Suffice to say we are skipping that event for the future...

Update: they are moving the event to another course on property. Spoke to some other parents and everyone had emailed the tournament director. Problem is that I’ll have to take my son out of school on Friday to play a practice round.

That is a different course. People get them confused. You played on the Westin MH Pete Dye and that course sucks! This discussion is about the Private Country Club Mission Hills Country Club Pete Dye next door. 

It's generally always perfect. Just really bad timing for this Cantlay tournament. If you have ever played the AJGA held there you'd know the courses have always been perfect at the Country Club.

Did you already play a round on the other course? Hope you don't have to pay for a second practice round.  Is the other course okay shape?

Pete Dye Challenge course at country club is great. ive played that a bunch of times...and yes, never seen in crap condition. USK Palm Springs Open coming up too...so I assumed thats what they were going to play.

My son is playing a qualifier at a course that is equally bad.  My son is trying to fake covid so I WD him, but he's playing it regardless.

I don't know why they still have qualifiers there. GO is awful.

Saw the Westin Mission Hills Pete Dye course last week. It's okay, not fabulous, just okay. About the same as it always is when they play the USK PS open there, maybe just a bit worse.  

But it's much better than the MHCC Pete Dye course.  It is unplayable! 

Guessing people are getting the courses mixed up and pulling out of US Kids event too, thinking it is really awful, so now they  need players. USK PS has always been full when we played.

Tournament got moved to the other course on property. And now we just got an email saying the kids will be taking carts now because of the heat.  

Has anyone here played a practice round on the other course yet? Is it in good shape? Not doing ours until tomorrow.

We don't have one either. Course said anytime after 9 its wide open.
