Should I get a Mevo+ with Pro Package?

Recommended Posts

If so, how to use it with my junior to benefit?  How do you all use it?  Have you seen game improvements since working with a lm?  Anything to be aware of with the Mevo+ with pro package?

First question is where you will be mainly using it?  Are you planning on setting up a simulator or would you be taking it to the course/range?

I had a mevo+ at one time and it just didn't fit the bill for the range and on course.  I would consistently get readings that were off on distance/spin etc...

Moved on to the GC3 now and its great.  Just wished I splurged a bit and got the quad.

Would be using it primarily on the range outdoors.  Form what I read, setting it up properly is key to have as accurate as possible numbers.  Also I gather that taking it on the course is less feasible because of that (and probably why we see tour guys carrying around GC4s during practice rounds).

According to a friend, the ball tracking numbers are off once > 150 yds. Likely the club numbers are not accurate either. Out of frustration, they got a TM4 saying they should have done it in the first place. We have a X3, so far are happy with it considering it's about half the price of a TM4.

The Mevo+ has been a great addition to our practice routine.  We get out to the course less than ideal amount during a typical week, and to supplement time on the course, the Mevo+ in our garage serves as our driving range.  We not play simulated golf on it, although I'm not opposed to doing it.  It's hooked up to an older gaming laptop I used to use mostly for post-processing digital photography, but I do occasionally hook up my iPad and use the FS Skill app.  We do not have the pro package, and if we did, I don't think it would offer us a much better experience.

The Good

After about 7 months of use, I've seen quite a bit of improvement in overall ball striking from both kids.  The biggest gain has been in approach shots.  When used with Pro-V1 RCT balls, I feel the system is accurate.  Compared with the TM the kids' pro uses, I feel that the Mevo+ is a little hot on SS to the tune of 1-2 MPH ( one kid tops out 84, the other at 78).  The shot shape and overall numbers are very comparable to the numbers we get when we go to the Big Shots in our town, which uses higher-end Flightscopes (Xi?).  That we no longer have to go to Big Shots and spend $20-$40 per hour, per bay to look at numbers has been nice in our situation (I have our 2.5 yo son most of the time due to the wife's demanding professional schedule).  I'm mostly happy with what the Mevo+ does for us, and for well-under $2K it has been a solid investment.  It reads full swing all the way up to driver to my satisfaction.  We don't putt, pitch or chip on it.

The Not-So-Good

After just 7 months of use, our Mevo+ has become rather fickle.  The battery charges up fine, but I can't hook it up to a power source while using it anymore and expect it to draw power from a source.  Worse, it will stop reading after dipping below 50% battery at times--hardly ideal for the pre-'23 model which has about 90 min of battery life.  I'm to the point where I'm going to contact Flightscope and see if they can troubleshoot it with me.  Maybe it's a firmware thing, because my unit used to operate as-advertised until about the middle of summer.  I also wish the FS Skill app worked on PC.

Would I buy it again?

Maybe.  It is tempting to sell it and save up some for a GC3 or BLP.  If I can get the battery issue squared away, I'll go back to being very happy with the Mevo+.

If that is the case, I feel as though you will be dissapointed with the Mevo+.  So much so that you will stop using it.

As far as using any type of unit to get better, the first step is to use is consistently.  I know a kid who has won multiple tournaments recently who uses the bushnell diligently to dial in yardages of all his clubs.  I mean he knows how far a half, quarter, and full shot with iron is going all the time assuming a flush hit.

Get this battery pack. It has the right amps/volts for the Mevo+ to charge.

Are you looking at the Mevo because of cost?  I've been doing the simulator thing for almost 5 years.  The common theme man I wish I would have just brought X to start.  If you like @kekoa mentioned the GC3 is a great option for indoor and outdoors.

You can play indoors if that is option you are looking at down the road.  GSPRO is a great package with alot of courses.

For the cost of a mevo+ pro package I'd really look hard at the Uneekor Eye Mini ... on sale right now for 3500 ... significantly less than the GC3 and only a little more than a BLP with no MANDATORY subscription unless you want sim integration, and even then its much cheaper and fully integrated with GSPro.

We started last year with an OG Skytrak in the winter to keep up his practicing and my son went from a tournament average in the high 90's last fall to shooting in the low 80's this spring season from the same yardages.

This year thanks in part to taking on coaching duties at the high school I teach at my team was able to order an eye mini recently and I'm excited to use it both with the team and my son this off season ... the club optix impact view along with all the club data should really help fine tune his swing and identify any issues and inconsistencies.

Face angle is very paramount in my mind and it seems the Bushnell and GC3 don't offer face angle whereas mevo+ with pro package does.

I think face angle, club path, and angle of attack are what I am most interested in.

The Mevo+ is pretty solid (for what it is), compared to its competition. But as the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for".

The Bushnell and GC3 all offer face angle, path and angle of attack. You just need a sticker on the club.

We have the Bushnell (GC3.   It fits our needs  (i)  indoor winter practice and (ii) course wedge practice.

To update my post, I want to add that I've ordered a replacement batter and a new charging cord with a power source/extended cord.  Best $15 I spent this week, as I now can use the Mevo+ again while it is plugged in and recharging.

For the $1750 I spent on it to get it in my garage, it is worth every penny of that price.  My kids are in front of pros enough, with Trackman a couple times per month, to be told if they are impacting the ball on the toe/high/thin/hosel.  After sitting through session after session, I can usually tell by the spin and shot shape if my kids are hitting it square or otherwise.  I take video when I need to solve for X as well.  It will get both of my kids through the next several seasons, then who knows--maybe I splurge for something GC3ish?

As a tool for my 10 and 12 yo kids to hit bucket after bucket and grove their swing?  To get to yardages?  Trying to throw darts at pins?  The Mevo+ in our garage works well.  For drives?  It's not TM but there are no egregious SkyTrak or Optishot numbers.  Not the best for getting exact spin rates, but it's not off thousands... maybe 100-400 now and then.  Using the RCT balls, I don't have to worry about adhesive dots, and for that I am thankful.

If you are looking for pro package information or better, just get the GC3 through the UpNext Player Development Program for incrementally more money IMO.  It's such a nice package that is at home on the range and in the garage.  I don't take my Mevo+ to the range, even though I could.  I did loan it out to a friend on the forum, and his comment was the Mevo+ did it's job, but spin was questionable.  GC3 it will be 99% close to TM or Quad.

I took a screenshot from the GC website - face angle is only offered on the GC4 and not the GC3 (and the BLP).  Am I missing something?  I know you can compute face angle with some math potentially but I want the machine to do it for me.

We've gone through many sims ranging from $2k Skytrack to Trackman and recently also added the GCQuad. There's a decent discount from Foresight/GC3 or GCQuad for top junior golfers and we got ours for close to 50% off. One benefit is that we can take the GCQuad on the course (without taking another ipad).

If anyone's interested in the contact, DM me & I can pass along his name.
