Mixing brands to make a bag

Got into a discussion during a tournament this weekend about mixing the different big names.  Seems like Ping has the best drivers/fw/hybrids, then it's a debate on Alto vs. USK on irons, but then Alto seems to have better wedges.  Need to redo my sons irons and wedges but wasn't sure if the weight difference between USK TS5 and Alto's was enough to throw him off in irons vs. wedges.  Based on talking with another dad, he mentioned Alto irons have much less forgiveness than his old USK so it got me thinking.  Plan was to go full Alto but my son is struggling and a less forgiving iron may not be the best choice.

 

Hoping someone has done this (USK irons and Alto wedges) and can provide some feedback on if your junior had adjustment problems due to weight.

Most parents opt for OEM woods and hybrids but go with US Kids for irons and wedges. With the OEM heads you can adjust the weights in most cases by ordering lighter ones.

I was under the impression that Ping Adult Woods are one of the heaviest out there.  I think their driver head was around 210 grams vs 190ish for competitors.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong

You are correct. Ping has a heavy head.

I read it at first that he was talking about adult woods/hybrids for Ping, but pretty sure he meant Prodi g.

 

That Prodi g hybrid and fw are fantastic, and my kids had that in their bags for several years.  The driver being fixed at 15* is a bit of a handicap IMO, and say, a Titleist TS1/TSi1/TSR1 is just as light/maybe lighter, adjustable, has removable weights and you can swap shafts on it easy.\

The Flynn lines have different weighted heads graded 1/2/3 in weight.  1 is between USKG UltraLight and TS-3 in weight, 2 roughly equal to TS-3 54" and 57", and 3 is roughly equal to TS-3 60" and 63".  The good thing about Flynn, is their customer service is really good and they want to get you into clubs to fit your kid.  Just ask them if you have questions about fit and weight.

 

As far as wedges go, each kid is going to be different.  Without knowing how big you child is or how hard they swing a driver, it is impossible to help you as much as you deserve.

 

Regarding wedges, the ping wedges are good but they don't offer a lob wedge if that is something you were looking for.  The TS3 wedges were OK, but light and cheaply made.  Very playable, though, and kids grow out of clubs so fast who needs longevity?
