Junior golfer recovery from broken wrist

My 8 year old son broke his wrist (his left wrist, swings left handed) a couple of weeks ago and is now in a cast for four weeks. 

 

Any advice for getting back into golf after getting the cast off? I'm sure the Dr will have some instructions/suggestions, but wanted to check here in case anyone has had similar experience and recovery.

Thanks! All good so far.  It sounds like slowly getting back into golf after getting the cast off would be good for getting the flexibility and strength back in his wrist, but there's a decent chance that he'll be good with just taking a break from golf for a while. We'll see!

Hey, slightly different injury, but my son broke his collarbone playing soccer. Dr said he would be out 6 weeks, but ended up being 5 when he could start doing light swings again. Doc said he could go back to full contact, but we worked him in slowly bc, well, heck, he'd just broken a bone. But what I learned is that at this age (my son was 11), the bones heal incredibly fast and they pretty quickly get back to normal. I'm sure your doc will tell you but I bet there will be very minimal limitations on what he can do once he feels the bone is healed. Good luck!

Monkey bars? My son broke his wrist at the same age eight years ago and there were no long term negative repercussions. He’s eight! He’ll bounce back fine. A handful of weeks away from golf isn’t going to hurt him at all. A lot of kids that age don’t touch a club for months at a time.

He slipped on a soccer ball, but we've heard about the same injury being common from the monkey bars. 

 

Agreed, it's not too unusual for him to take a few weeks off of golf anyways.

My daughter has had a bunch of injuries from gymnastics. Broken hand, foot (2x) and a pretty major concussion. Just have to give it time to heal and then slowly get back into the swing of things. For golf, I would probably recommend just putting and chipping for a couple of weeks after the cast comes off. There will be a tremendous urge to hit the range and start beating balls, but you have to remember that those range mats are brutal on joints so just give it time.

Thanks for the perspective and suggestion. We will definitely ease into it with chipping and putting.
