Driver shaft between regular and stiff

Driver swing speed is 95-100 and avg swing is around 98. I feel like I fall in between regular and stiff. I’ve played stiff shafts that feel too stiff, and regular shafts that feel too floppy. I realize that the notation of ‘regular’ or ‘stiff’ is not universal and varies from shaft to shaft. But I’m looking to try a shaft that falls on the stiffer side of a regular, or more flexible side of a stiff. Got any good recommendations for me to look at?

 

Also, I know a proper fitting is probably the best bet. But I want to see if there are a few I could look into on my own, if anyone has any they would recommend from personal experience.

Graphite Design IZ comes in an SR flex and in a variety of weights.

 

Its a bit softer in the mid section for a higher flight with a bit more spin.

 

Worth a look i think but a little pricey.

I have a Ventus TR Blue 5 Regular tipped 1/2 by TM and it plays like an SR imo.  Not a fan as I can overpower it when I go after so most likely will stick with Stiff.

What is your tempo like? I have a bit of a quicker transition and I play an Alidla Rogue Silver 110 MSI in stiff. I hit the ball around 250...not a huge hitter. 

 

I have a buddy who drives the ball 280-300 pretty easily and plays a stiff aswell. Silky smooth.

 

Shaft selection really varies from shaft to shaft/person to person. 

 

I would aim for a shaft that is 60g, stiff, with low spin and mid to low flight.

As you said, there is no standard of regular or stiff, so try tipping a regular shaft that you like 1 inch or so.  This should keep some of the other bend profile somewhat intact.

I swing about the same. I play a recoil 450 (F4, "stiff"). I got in a used head where I wanted the head and I wound up using the shaft instead 🤣

 

It feels 'bendy' for a stiff but that's what I like. Board-like shafts are not for me.  They are also not expensive if you wanted to tinker.

Proforce v2 is not expensive and on the stiffer side (at least in x)

The Maltby MPF Pro D which are not expensive and swing way above their price point.  They run a stiffer regular.  I have the Maltby FW shafts in my 4W and UW.  My driver SS is 92-96 depending upon how my knees feel any given day.  My driver carry distance is generally 220-235 depending upon the day.  I'll get 240-255 with rollout.  I hit my 4W off the tee 210-230, again, depending upon the day and my knees.

There are regular shafts out there, that are stiffer than some stiff shafts out there… 

 

Mitsubishi and Fujikura are very true to flex in my opinion.
 

And stability does not necessarily have something to do with flex. Low torque shaft’s always feel stabile but they can be flexible as well. Normally the torque goes down as the stiffness comes up. But if you compare different shaft companies you will see different torque numbers for different shafts. 
 

BTW for the most shaft companies out there your swing speed requires a stiff shaft

It would probably be helpful to know specifically which stiff shafts you found too stiff and which reg flex shafts you found too flexible.   Otherwise you just get answers based on other peoples ideas of what it means to be a stiff or reg flex shaft - not yours.

Even amongst stiff flex shaft, some feel bit more soft and same feel bit more stiff/stout. 

 

Examples:  Diamana has DF and BF shaft. DF is low flight and low spin 0 and BF is mid flight and mid spin.  Even though both might be Stiff Flex, BF will feel softer. 

 

UST has Lin-Q M40X has various different shaft colors which reflexs launch and spin.  Black which is low launch with low spin will feel more stiffer/stout than Blue.  

 

Generally speaking, low launch/low spin shafts tends to feel bit more stiff than mid lauch or high launch shaft (of course there are always exceptions) 

 

With swing speed of 95 to 100, I think stiff flex should work.  Just need to figure out what shaft will fit you
