Williamsburg, VA Golf Trip in April 2024 - Best way to book?

Mr_Wolfe

Recommended Posts

Hi all, a group of 8 of us are looking to book a trip to Williamsburg, VA for April 1, 2024. Can anyone recommend the best way to book this trip or who to use? Of course any recommendations on tracks, lodging, etc. are appreciated. We are coming from Pittsburgh, PA (about a 6 hour drive) and this is our first trip to this area. Looking to play 4 rounds of golf. Thanks for any help!!

I just got a package deal at KingsMill Resort that was pretty good for 3 days, 3 rounds of golf and Condos that sleep 3/4.   Contract the resort directly for pricing and info

Also Virginia Golf Vacations can book packages at other courses in the area including the Golden Horseshoe courses.

I'd honestly just book your own trip.  There is no need to use someone except for the sheer convenience.

Here is some thought from my recent trip.  I would def include these 3 courses.  The other one to consider is New Kent.   But if just staying in WB - then you have Kingsmill and Horseshoe there for you.  But since you are driving - I would highly recommend getting in one of the courses in Richmond area.

The Kingsmill package I mentioned was booking our own, just called the resort and spoke to the rep there.  We needed to book it trough them vs online due to the size and specific needs.

But also booking through a package service can help with payments, that way everone can pay the resort/booker directly vs you having to collect from everyone and pay it all your self.

I know the GM at Spring Creek, it is a phenomenal course.   And Mattaponi we have a group of us in the DC area that used to make it our unofficial spring opening event of the year, and go down every March or April and play it.   One of the best layouts in around.   Although we haven't played it in several years, glad to hear it's still great.

I almost always book my own trips. For me it's part of the fun and quite easy.

Don't miss Golden Horseshoe at Williamsburg. It's very memorable.

If you don't mind the drive, include Royal New Kent, especially if you haven't played a Mike Strantz course before.

As was mentioned above, Richmond has some good choices. You could play a round there on the drive down or on the way back . I haven't visited Richmond in ages, but when I did, Hunting Hawk and Independence were good.

Thanks for everyone's help. Here is what I just got a quote on so all opinions welcome. I did not commit to anything.

8 People

4 nights with 2 (4) bedroom condos (everyone want their own bedroom)

1 round at each:

• Golden Horseshoe (Gold)

• Brickshire

• Viniterra

• Royal New Kent

About $700/guy all in.

Looks like a great deal to me, and 4 top notch courses.   Where are the accommodations if you don't mind my asking?

I think this is a decent price. It was a little over $600/guy if we were splitting bedrooms.

Mr. Wolfe

Yeah, the single bedrooms is worth the few extra bucks to me for sure!

Cool!  Thanks.  We are pretty much settled on Kingsmill Resort for this trip.  The group liked the idea of staying in the same place we were going to play all3 rounds.   We did look at a package very similar to yours with accommodations that were in 3 bedroom condos.

That makes sense. I know almost nothing about the area so looking forward to the trip. Last year we did the Pinehurst area which was great. Typically, we do the Pawleys Island area.

Sounds like we're following each other 🙂    Last year we did the Pinehurst area stayed at Mid South Villas and palyed,  Talamore, MidSouth and Pine Needles.

The year before we were in Maryland at Queenstown, rented a on course cottage for 12 which sat right off the tee of the 2nd hole.  Led to some late night chipping and putting contests. Tey have 36 holes, all were a short walk from the house.

Nice! We did Pine Needles, Southern Pines, Mid Pines, and Talamore. We loved all of them. We thought about going back, but decided to change it up this year.
