Anyway will definitely have the Proxima in the bag tomorrow with my normal group.

As stated above used it all day today, we only played 27 instead of our normal 36. Same results as I have posted in the past. The one thing the Proxima is definitely better at than the A/F is hitting into the wind. Seems to penetrate more for sure. I need to go to Golf Galaxy and rent a bay so I can see my actual numbers.

Going to play the Proxima again all day tomorrow as well.

I'm fortunate enough to have gotten to know that gentleman that went from Autoflex to work with Proxima. I also got to test the Proxima 6x. It has been in my ping driver for at least 5 months now, and has been a game changer for me as far as distance and accuracy. That is actually a huge understatement. I can swing at it as fast as I can and I can feel the head more stable though impact. It's a feeling like hitting a home run and not feeling it hit the bat. I just missed getting through the farmers qualifying but it wasn't for a lack of hitting fairways. I hit every fairway and drove one green on Industry Hills Ike course. That is not the easiest track to do that. The confidence I have with the proxima is a different kind of confidence. It's the closest thing to feeling automatic that I have felt. I have hit different shafts, including the Autoflex - brutal having to change your tempo to get the shaft to perform correctly. I don't have anything bad to say about the Ventus, but I think anyone who tries the Proxima will see the dispersion is just significantly better than anything else out there. I'm playing in the Asher Tournament this week and I have a big advantage off the tee. Steve Yin is a great guy, but I would have said all that I just said, even if he wasn't. Lol The best way I can see describe the Proxima shaft is the feeling of the old yellow ust shaft with the technology of today's high performance shafts. I hope that helps.

What is your swing speed that got you to 6x? Aggressive or smooth? Any tipping? Thanks

Got the AI Smoke Max and Proxima out today and a still soggy Balboa GC with my buddies.

It's been like 4 days since the last rain but the fairways were still soaked, muddy. The 12th hole Par 5 was almost unplayable, long stretches with pools/lakes of water. "Welcome to Balboa Lakes" my buddy Dan commented. It didn't matter how far or short you hit on this hole, you were in the mud.

On top of that, I don't think the crew cut anything at all on the course, didn't reset the pins that all had volcanoes. The fairways were looking rough like and the rough got even rougher.

So I turned down my Smoke 10.5 to -1.5 and it was an "interesting" day with Smoke Max. All day it was high. Felt like delofting did nothing to the 10.5 head. Even changed my stance width and that usually brings it down - did noting.

Got home, drank a beer and decided to switch back to my Stealth 2+ 9* head. Even with the TR Red Ventus, the Stealth was much lower flighted than the AI Smoke Max. I think my Smoke Max 10.5 is too high of a launch head. Weight is stock with the 14gm slider and 2gm front. Also, I can't change the slider weight as my old Epic Flash Sub Zero slider weights will not fit. Didn't find that out until this morning. Oooops.

So back to the Proxima. Managed to hook one and it was a nothing burger. Literally, it could have gone way left but it did not. Short and almost tree lined left. I did slice one and it just got to the neighboring fairway just past the tree line which was a good thing. Take my medicine and easy chip it back into the play. Nothing like the middle of the other fairway with the other shafts.

Pulled and pushed shots were straight. Where the club path pointed to at impact was a straight shot. Again, not much side spin in it.

Other than that, it was basically what I saw from last Saturday - straight, straight and straight

Had the ball not flown as high, it would easily be the longest drives. I think plugging Proxima into my S2+, it will shine. No issue with how the Proxima performed and still feel the 5X is perfect

....but for now, I am going to shut it down, Take a break from golf & go snowboarding 🏂.

At least I'll enjoy nature's water in the snow white, pristine form ❄ much better than it's brown, muddy form snow

🍻

Hah, yeh weather permitting and if I don't have Grandpa duty. We will play 36 holes a day. Very lucky to be retired ( 4 years now ) and be in the position I'm in.

I would definitely be better if I practiced some did but it is very boring to me. So I just head to the tee box, take a few practice swings and go. If I don't play as good that day I don't get too upset about it. As I know I will be playing again the next day anyway.

Played 36 again today. Weather was sunny and high 70's and VERY WINDY. Easily a 3 club wind when hitting directly into it.

I wasn't planning on doing this but due to the amount of wind I played the Proxima all day. To me this is the biggest difference between it and the A/F. The Proxima just has a penetrating flight and doesn't balloon at all. It doesn't seem to be affected as much when there is a crosswind either.

For the near future I will probably still swap out between the Proxima and the A/F. They are both GREAT shafts and produce very similar results.

I'm hoping to find a PXG Black Ops Tour-1 head on the BST pretty soon and pair it up with the Proxima. Might be the Unicorn of all Unicorns for me.

I watched the driver bracket challenge that TXG (Now Club Champion) put out on the Black Ops Tour -1 driver.  Man Ian was hitting some absolute rockets with the PXG.  Should be illegal to hit them as far and as straight as he was in both rounds but especially the first round.

Yeh both him and Matt (who I hated to see leave) are machines!!

When I did a fitting for both the Black Ops the Tour-1 was way better for me with the A/F. If .one doesn't show up on the BST soon I'm sure I'll just give in and buy one

I played the Proxima today.  Hit 7/14 fairways, which is pretty average for me.  Distance was decent.  The most notable thing I have noticed with this shaft is that it creates very little side spin.  The ball tends to go where the face of the club is pointing at impact.  It is a very low spin shaft for me; probably alittle too low.  It got alittle windy today and I can say that it is a great shaft to have in play on a windy day.  I'll give it another whirl next weekend.

Question for guys who have hit both the AF and Proxima.  Which do you find to be lower spin?  I love the AF but some of the shots I hit with it are just so spinny that they are hitting and stopping in the damp fairways.  I ended up going back to my Velocore just to keep the spin down but hate the distance I’ve lost compared to what I was getting with the AF.

I've been playing the A/F for 3+ years now. Been demoing the Proxima now for probably almost 3 weeks. Weather permitting and no Grandpa duties I play 27 - 36 holes a day.

I don't have any launch monitor numbers but based on what I've seen the Proxima definitely spins less. It will hold its line and gives you a better trajectory into the wind better than the A/F. Also sidespin is less as well under normal conditions.

My launch is lower with the Proxima vs my AutoFlex.  Side spin is def lower with the Proxima.

Still a little soggy, but managed to get a couple of rounds in this week.

As of the last two rounds, Autoflex kind of has the edge again. AF is a little more effortless in terms of distance, and when I really step on it, it goes a little further than the Proxima. My driver swing was really on today and I used the AF for the whole round. Plan is to switch to the Proxima for my next round and see what it does. I hit a ton of fairways today, but if it's even easier to be straight with the Proxima that would be rad. 😄

If you are comparing the Proxima vs the AF, I think the AF will be a little longer due to the nature of how soft and whippy that shaft is.  Where the Proxima will shine over the AF is sidespin and lower launch and def cuts through the wind better.

where the Proxima makes it’s hay is vs the Ventus type shafts.  The Proxima seem to go a little longer and help reduce spin but a little easier to load and kick for some added distance.

Are there any places that have these for fittings? In the NJ area would be ideal.

You would need to check their website.

I was hoping places like the bigger fitters. Club Champion, True Spec, PGA Superstore..... I'd have a hard time spending that much unless I could compare it to other shafts.

I know I've said this before on here but the above is so true. This past Tuesday and Wednesday we ( Houston, Tx ) had constant 25mph winds with constant 35mph gusts. My course is a 27 hole Links course with 1 tree.

Played 36 holes Tue and 27 holes Wed, let just say the Proxima did its thing. SO MUCH better in the wind (especially into) than the A/F.

The A/F definitely has a slight edge in distance, but it's not significant. I will be keeping both shafts in the bag this spring. As it's usually pretty windy here for the next couple of months. Will decide which shaft to play when I get there.

114 during a tournament round. I can get it to 118 on the range. I tipped it just .5". I would play it as long as you can (46) at first and see if you like it because that's the best part of the shaft. It's easy to square the face even if it is a bit longer - longer equals longer drives most of the time.

Proxima is IMPRESSIVE.

It was another cold and wet day Saturday at Woodley. Plugged balls. However, today I matched my 5X to the old Stealth2+ and seeing a much, much better ball flight. As I was in the snow and no golf, it was a slow start with the driver. Particularly adjusting for the severe lie difference between the Callaway AI Smoke Max and the much flatter Stealth 2+. For my S2+, I just set to Standard to start with but all day I was hitting slight fades with it

The back 9 the combo started to shine. Interrupted by intermittent rain, I think it would have been a GR8 driving day - just the faiways sucked so bad.

More testing but Proxima will remain in the S2+ head. Moving my Ai Smoke Max to a new home... (PM me if anyone is interested)

Another very good driving day! Soggy fairways but I was splitting the middle most of the day.

Proxima is extremely consistent and has a great feel. Different from Autoflex in a way I think some people will really like. I am really curious about the 4R and 4S shafts - has anyone tried one of those? I have a feeling shaving off 10 more grams would probably max the distance out on this one for me as a lady with 92ish SS. Always great to have more options in this driver shaft segment, I can see why Matt Blois did so well with it.

@My2Dogs what's the recommendation for Riley (my pro buddy at Sepulveda Balboa GC), he plays an Aldilla 6TX at the moment but loves the straightness in my 5X? SS, I think, is around 110-115.

Both the 5X and 6X work.  They actually stated people with a 105mph swing and above can hit the 5X.  Also if you have a little more aggressive transition, the 6X can also work for the 110 and above.

Both the 5X and 6X work.  They actually stated people with a 105mph swing and above can hit the 5X.  Also if you have a little more aggressive transition, the 6X can also work for the 110 and above.

Ah, good to know. He hit my S2+ with the Proxima and also the Ai Smoke with the Proxima & neither one appears to be over powered - so damn straight and no massive hooks, Draw yes, hooks no with the 5X. I'll let me know to look at the 6X then, hes way faster than moi

Thanks 👍

So last week and this past weekend we ( Houston area) have had nice warm conditions with a light wind. Both Tuesday and Wednesday this week it was 86* Sunny and very little wind. Of course those were the 2 days this week I had Grandpa duty,

Yesterday, no Grandpa duty. Warm and kinda overcast and definitely breezy. Started out with the A/F but after 3 holes it was evident the ball was going nowhere into the wind. Put the Proxima in and picked up about 10 - 12 yards from where I would have been with the A/F. Ball does nothing but go straight when hitting with a crosswind as well.

PROXIMA CONTINUES TO IMPRESS !!!!!!!!!

Still following in this thread.  I'm a handle yanker so I'm reluctant to pull the trigger on these ultra lite and whippy shafts.  Do you find the Proxima to work for aggressive transitions or is it another Autoflex/Metaflex where you gotta smooth out transition to reap the benefits?  Anyone else in this thread that has the Proxima is free to answer as well.
