PXG Black Ops Drivers! In-Hand Pics!

Recommended Posts

Never really been interested in the PXG on price alone, but this one has me intrigued. The reviews seem to say it's up there with all other OEMs, plus I REALLY like the head shape. A lot of the new drivers have LARGE or elongated head shapes, which don't suit my eye. The Black Ops & TSR 3/4 are the best looking new drivers IMO. I'm coming from a Cobra LTD Pro, which I really like the shape of.

It lives up to the hype.  It beat my AeroJet I was fitted for last year.  Impressive.

Were you fitted at a pxg store? how was it if so?

I was fit at a PXG store at Westgate AZ while we were visiting friends.  I only got to hit the regular Black Ops, but did not buy at that time.  Going back to the PXG store in Fairfax this week to hit both the tour and regular heads before buying.  Black Ops will be in play shortly.  I have been fit at their stores several times over the years and it has always been first rate.  Very thorough and low pressure.  Worth doing for $25 to at least try their products.

The fact that it's only $25 for a fitting is wild to me, glad to hear you had a good experience, once I get a bit better with driver I plan on heading over to the Charlotte store for a fitting.

I got fit at the Charlotte store. It was pretty decent. Fitting a full bag into the 2 hour window is tight. Id skip putter as the Charlotte location has no software for putter fitting yet (as of 5 months ago).

For what it’s worth, I took my new BO to my good friend who is club fitter at a private golf fitting store, very well respected and known in my area.  I’ve always been fit from him and purchased with his company.  My BO I went through my local PXG store.  He put me through the gauntlet with literally every new Driver on the market, swapping shafts, lofts, etc and my BO hands down was the clear winner.  The new Cobra was super fast but I was all over the map with that club.   I thought perhaps Qi10 might squeak through and perhaps Ai Smoke & the new Mizuno but the PXG was on top in terms of my spin, distance and more importantly for me, dispersion.   He played with different  shafts PXG put me in (Tour AD) along with the weight configuration and finally said PXG nailed it for me.   He said they did a perfect job and wouldn’t change a thing.   I’ve  had my new Driver on course a little bit and the feel is amazing compared to many other Drivers I’ve had.  My course is still soaked so most of my drives are still plugging but looking forward to things firming up and watching the balls take off more.

Cobra makes great drivers, but I found miss hits are very spiny in the LS model.  Black Ops (I got the Tour version) did a great job of keeping the spin in check.

This is true and why the T-1 currently has a slight advantage over the Darkspeed LS. PXG might have the best driver on the market this year. Totally blows the Aerojet LS away. Going to spend early March trying to find the right shaft for the DLS, so I can get a better comparison of the two drivers.

Im about to blindly pull the trigger on the -1 tour, nowhere to test where I live... Did you guys had to loft up? I play a G430 MAX 10K in 7.5 and a TSR3 in 9.

I believe my height is "ok" with those, had to turn the Ping down from 9 because I had almost no roll.

Would a 9 degree tour be fine or should I loft up to 10.5? Gonna play it in the new Diamana WB 60X
