New Vortex Golf rangefinder - 2024 Genesis Invitational

Recommended Posts

If anyone is actually interested in getting one of these make sure to try it out before you use it. My dad played in a Pro-Member today with one of his buddies who plays on the Champions Tour who was given the Anarch model the morning of. The rangefinder has an image stabilization feature that steadies the cross-hair so you can lock on to the pin easier but all it does is make you dizzy and make you feel like you aren't able to lock on to the flag at all. I shot a few flags myself and hated it. Additionally, you can't turn that feature off at all so you are stuck with it

I know we have Bushnell, but is the trend going to be: All scope and gun optics manufacturers going to get into this game? I know they have already have range finders..

Vortex I love you, but come on man.. lol

I guess you got die hards that will buy it, I use Burris and vortex scopes but I'm not gonna buy one becauseof the name. How many times I had to run back to the cart to get my range finder ill stick with Amazon specials lol

Why not they all have the tech, they have the optics, they have the processors. It's a market that they overlap into or untouched.

It's good cause it will now force Bushnell to up their game vs be complacent with little to no competition. Also don't forget all the survey companies getting into this as well.

I’m honestly surprised they hadn't done it sooner.

Before the golf boom you only had a handful of rangefinder brands, after the boom you have a lot more players and a lot more brands mainly DTC ones that don't offer the best product. I'm sure they want to get in, offer something better and less than Bushnell and be an option for people who don't want to spend Bushnell money but want something more quality.

Granted there are a few brands that are as much or more than Bushnell like Cobalt but for me I'm familiar with their parent company, optics and processors and gravitated towards them. Vortex for is probably going after current customer base as well.

Yea I don't know why anyone would be against someone giving Bushnell legit competition, they've had a near monopoly on the high end range rangefinder market for a while and the product really hasn't changed.

At a minimum hopefully this can give them some pricing pressure.

I’ve always used a Bushnell. Not bc I’m a diehard but bc it has always worked and it’s what my course sells. When this one gives out I would be open to trying a new one but hesitant..any recommendations on which brands are worth looking into?

Bushnell has a one year warranty and Vortex has a lifetime warranty. While you may never have a issue with a rangefinder, the fact that if you do at anytime it will be fixed or replaced is a big deal in my book.

Blue Tees is taking market share from them, they've become the #2 brand in the category in just a couple of years with good products at lower price points than Bushnell. Nikon has also had the Coolshot 50i in the market for a couple of years that has V6 Shift features but at $100 less, so same price as the base V6, and it goes on sale for $50 off a couple of times a year but for some reason Nikon flies under the radar for a lot of people.

The golf rangefinder category (GPS and laser) has been IMO an overcrowded space since they were made legal for play back in the mid 2000s, you just don't see all the brands in one place anymore and somehow the brands have all managed to stick around in some form. Here are (mostly) notable brands currently making golf rangefinders just off the top of my head and a couple of looks at amazon:

Bushnell

Nikon

Blue Tees

Callaway (under license to Izzo)

Izzo

Garmin

Golfbuddy

TecTecTec

Precision Pro

Voicecaddie

Shot Scope

Skygolf

Leupold

And there are countless others making and selling cheap golf rangefinders in varying degrees of genericness on Amazon or DTC.

Warranty aside, I just don't see what Vortex could possibly bring to the table that two other major optics companies (Bushnell and Nikon) and a bunch of others haven't already. Nikon for example already has a killer image stabilization system borrowed from their camera division in the Coolshot Pro and it's priced similarly to the Vortex with a similar system. My assumption is they're banking on a heavy crossover between hunting/firearms and golfing (fair), and the handful of sporting goods retailers that sell both categories (field and golf) to carry their models (not a safe assumption IMO).

it’s crazy around here. Tough to get a tee time. And this winter even the indoor sim places you gotta book 2+ weeks out.  Hate it. I want precovid golf back.

It's like that where I am too but for the indoor stuff luckily we've had so many sim places open up that there are always places to go and prices have been driven down. I can get TrackMan time for $15/hr at some places, usually it's pushing $35/hr+

The tee times still definitely struggle with that and where I am it's even hard or impossible to book as a single.

Our places avg around $60 an hour. But there is a place down the road with a quad, GC Hawk and GC3 for $10 for 30 min or $20 for an hour. You can’t get a tee time unless you book about 2 weeks out.
