....for all the 6'-3" and 6'-4" players out there, what are your iron specs?

The General

Recommended Posts

I'm 6'4" and play 1/2" over/3* upright and it seems about perfect for me. Maybe there's a world where more length or a 3/8" increment between clubs would work better but these seem to work as well as anything so I don't want to have to get into the swing weight management of super long irons.

There's an interesting very long thread about iron builds for tall golfers around here somewhere.

I figure no matter what my club specs are I'll still find a way to hit it on the toe so doesn't even matter much lol

I’m 6’3”. 1” longer irons, 2 degrees flat. I’ve been fit several times at 1” longer, but was always standard lie. Given that Titleist is a little more upright than Mizuno, 2 degrees flat makes sense for the irons i am playing. But I’m thinking of going stock length - often when I choke down to take some distance off, I hit it better!

6'4" here. My PW is 48 degrees and +1" like all my wedges. My 9i is +.67". 8i +.33". 7i is standard. 6i and longer are standard but will be shortened and lies are getting upright. Would be great to have a real MOI matched set in the future. Start point being +1" in wedges.

6’4” with longer than average wrist to floor measurement.  From a fitting back in 2014 from a well known fitter in the TN area, +1.75 across all irons, 1 UP.  On my 4th set built like this and handicap has gone from 7 to 2 over that period.  Most recent set (24 Apex Pro), made the move to MMT 105 TX, and loving graphite so far.

It's not only height. Everyone will be different depending on height, arm length, leg length, torso length, swing dynamics, and OEM standard length.  Height is only a small part of the equation.

Yes…. not sure what a person would do with all these random data points.

Including the WTF measurement might add a bit of usefulness,

but then not so much, as you stated.

Agreed. I just figure height is good starting point and everyone knows how tall they are.

+1/2” & 2* upright. I have long arms and the 5-4i feel a little long still with this set up.

I knew I needed more length, back when, I couldn’t maintain posture in the swing (prob still can’t). Once I added length, I could stand more upright and made it easier to rotate. My woods are standard, maybe 44.5 in the driver. Ive been messing with the swing weights in the last few years, it’s made the irons easier to swing - got them at D4 and D5

6' 3"  with a 37" WTF measurement.

XLarge hands.

Midsize tour wrap style grips with no extra wraps of tape.

Stock lengths.

I'll bend the irons 1 degree upright depending on the model.  Most any Ping  Blue Dot iron has always been a good fit for me.

I like a little more swingweight in my irons (around D4 )  as it helps me with feel and tempo.

I'm not a big hitter (7 iron around 155 ish)

I am 64, 270lbs,  6'3". I was always fitted to play my irons at +1,  2*up from 1995 up until my most recent fitting. My last fitting was with the Ping g410 irons. My fitter put me in +1/2, 3*up specs. I like to play all my wedges the same length so my sw, lw, are fitted a little longer.

Me too.

I have been cutting the shafts for my wedges the same length for decades.

This is spot on.

I am 6'3" and I play with 2 other 6'3" guys. At one time one of the guys and I played and were fitted into the same irons. I was fitted at +1 2* up and the other guy was fitted into stock specs. I am more leg and shorter arms and he is longer torso with long arms. I need longer inseam pants and he needs to wear tall shirts. The other guy wears the same inseam as I do and similar fitting shirts but his arms are longer than mine. He has always been fit into +1/2  1*up being fit into Ping irons. My last fitting was with Ping irons and I was fit into +1/2 3* up.
