Pressel allowed to join LPGA Tour

"I am pleased to announce that I've granted Morgan Pressel full LPGA Tour membership starting in January 2006," Bivens said. "Morgan is an exceptionally talented young player who will be a terrific addition to the 2006 LPGA Tour. She presents a unique combination of academic and golf achievements and I am impressed with Morgan's abilities."

 

Pressel competed in seven LPGA events in 2005 and made the cut in each event finishing in the top 25 every time. She also won the U.S. Women's Amateur in dominating fashion.

 

"Becoming a full-time member of the LPGA is a dream come true," Pressel said. "I am thrilled that commissioner Bivens has granted me special permission to begin competing as an official member of the tour right from the start of the 2006 season.

 

"I can't wait for the season to start and to be able to fully compete and be a part of the rookie race. Also, having a full season to try and qualify for the LPGA Playoffs at The ADT is a great opportunity."

As the President of the Morgan Pressel Fan CLub its about time. this should never have been in question or denied the first time. she has proven time and time again her ability,laoyalty and love for Womens golf.

I don't know why they even beat around the bush with it. They should have used her q school qual to get some quality press time by announcing it then. Good luck to her.

It was ridiculous to exclude her in the first place. Sheesh...she has less than 6 months until her 18th anyway! Go Bivens! Go Pressell!

That's good that they have let her in. It's ridiculous that they even considered not letting her in until she was 18. It's a stupid rule especially at a time with so many young phenoms in the game.

Hey Gang.. I am new here and just wanted to say that I am very happy they have let Morgan join the LPGA. She will be a huge asset to the tour. I also feel she will make an impact this next year with her play. She is a great kid with a super competitive nature and the brains to go with that.

 

One of my best friends works as an assistant at The St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton and I was down there last year and Morgan was on the practive range. We watched her for about a half hour. Terrific work ethic and a really nice person too. When it was at a point where we wouldn't be a distraction he took me over to meet her. She was a really gracious person and you can tell that she has all the tools to be a great professional.

 

My buddy helped out on a Golf Digest photo shoot of Morgan at St. Andrews a few weeks back. I believe she will be on the cover and a full article about her as well.

 

Anyway, just wanted to put my 2 cents in here. BTW, this is a great discussion board. I will try to spend more time here.

Thought it was really stupid hair-splitting on the part of Votaw to deny her petition in the first place -- especially in light of the waiver he had given to Aree Song. Once the door was open, the LPGA didn't have a leg to stand on. The DUMBEST arguement was that Morgan wouldn't have graduated from high school when the season begins. So what? The qualification is based on age not academic credentials. To my knowledge there is absolutely no specification within the bylaws of the LPGA that has anything to do with high school graduation or even literacy, just born female and 18 years of age. Ty was trying to close the barn door after HE had let the horse out of the coral to say nothing of the building. I'm glad that Bivens reconsidered and will allow Morgan to have all of the rights and priviledges of her fully exempt status. What a double kick in the head to be able to participate but have none of your earnings or possible wins count until some arbitrary date. Morgan will undoubtedly finish high school -- near the top of her class as she also is a straight A student. She appears to be an absolutely delightful young woman with a wicked sense of humor.
