One of my all-time favourite events.

I wish they keep the all match play format, but alas I think they did what they needed to do.

Now if Shadow Creek will only allow people in... That course is amazing, but the policy is ruining this event imo.

Fans can attend this year, but tickets are limited.

I love match play ...This new format seems .. more grueling no? Not a fan.  What if you have 10+ players T8 on the day before last?

Since this event now coincides with March Madness, a 64 player single elimination bracket top RR only - would be more compelling, especially for casual fans. But good thing Yani and Creamer are here to keep it competitive 🤡

At least Gina Kim is the last player in the field!

This happens all the time  at the US Women's Amateur; there'll be a playoff to narrow down the field to Final 8 before the weekend.

What if 13 players are T5 or better? Are there going to be playoffs within the playoff to determine the seeding? Does Shadow Creek had stadium lighting? 😂

Ayaka Furue back to back runner ups, she is one the favorites here though the top players traditionally skipped this one since it was a week before the US Open.

Hard to pick against Nelly who is the best golfer in the world right now, (Man or woman) and on a heater.

Daniela Darquea my out of the box sleeper pick, who netted a top 10 here last year.

Agree, calling an event "match play" with only 1 of 4 rounds as actual match play is brutal.

It's a five day tournament. Three days of stroke play, and then three matches over 2 days.

So all we get is who the better match player is out of the top 8 stroke players.

It's a poor, mediocre, milquetoast format, neither A nor B.

I'm ok with the format change.  I love match play events, but this event was pretty awful to watch on the final day.  It was always mid summer and was hot as hell, and immediately preceded the US Open.  Whomever made it into the final two groups was totally wiped out for the US Open a few days later.  Two years ago, the 3/4 final match was forfeited because ShanShan just didn't want to play, so we had exactly two players on course for the final TV coverage.

I know it is sacrilege, because golf is all about 18 holes, but I really think fast-paced 9 hole rounds makes so much sense for match play events.  Do a soccer world cup grouping, four ladies per group.  They could play three 9 hole matches in each group on Day 1, top two move forward.  They could have a lot more matches on the course at the same time, front nine, back nine etc.

According to what I read, there will be no playoff to decide the final 8. In case of ties for eighth, the player with the lowest third round score on Friday will get in. If still tied they go to the lowest second round score, if still tied the lowest first round score, if still tied the player that has the best ranking in the Rolex Rankings.

Notable groups

Nelly - Minjee - LG

Brooke - Alison - Leona

Lyds - Haeran - the Beloved one

Pajaree - Ewing - Furue (the most successful trio on this track)

Is LC ready for the big time? This course should suit her GIR prowess. She gets major winners SYK and Anna N.

Gina Kim gets fresh green tee time at least - better to be first than last! She is with underachieving duo of Steph K and fellow Dookie alum Yan Liu

It's just occured to me that Nelly has never won in California or West Coast until 2-3 weeks ago at Palos Verdes.  Her other nine wins were in Taiwan, Australia, Taiwan, Florida, Michigan, Georgia, Florida, Florida and Florida.

There maybe truth when she said she's physically much stronger than when she's playing well in 2021; especially after taking seven weeks off earlier this year.  She did a lot of physical training during that time off.

Hopefully she can reach the match play stage this weekend; it'll take all her physical and mental strength to do it!
