8 iron from 220 yards and sticking it to a few feet was unreal considering what was at stake.   Up next was Hovland from 194 yards on same hole hitting 7 iron.

He's great to watch.  His uniqueness is sorely missed on the normal tour, however I am happy seeing him in the Majors only.

Playing elsewhere has not dimmed his competitive nature or his skills.  Masters T6 and PGA runner up is very solid to start 2024.

In what universe has an 8 iron ever had 30 degrees of loft? It's ridiculous that there are even numbers on the soles anymore. Just stamp the loft.

Haven’t bought a new set of clubs in a few years but apparently lofts are stronger in some makes than they used to be

Guess I can look forward to hitting a new 7 iron further into the lake than I do with my current clubs

The PW used to be 52*. The 8i used to be 44*. I do not see anyone looking for 8i with that loft.

Golf manufactures have been altering lofts for several decades.

Taylor Made BRNR 11.5*

Taylor Made Stealth 2 + 5 wood

Honma TR21 7 wood

Honma TW-X 5-11

Edel SMS 54*, 58*

By my trusty Ralph Maltby book, those lofts were accurate for 1974.  BDC's irons are insanely jacked, but they are all on a 6 iron shaft.  He has enough speed to hit moonballs with those specs.

Are you the guy who tells his friend who hits 8 iron from 150 yards that it’s truly a 6 iron?

By far the guy I like to follow in golf...Not only do I enjoy how he plays the game, I also enjoy how he goes out there on Youtube and does instructional videos...

As far as I can tell he is one of the few and only Tour players that goes out and teaches/instructs how he plays the game in much detail...Yea Yea some of these guys go out and give a few tips here and there, but not to the extent of BD

I watched his short game video on how he practices, which was about 15 min long and it was quite good and instructive...

This is exactly why I’ve never hated him or understood the hate for him (or any golfer for that matter).  He’s just a bit odd and un self aware.

I’m also a bit odd and sometimes lack self awareness so I relate to my guy Bryson. I always got the impression that a guy like Tiger probably spends 30 minutes a day practicing interview in the mirror while Bryson is making sure the coriolis effect isn’t affecting his putts.

Two years ago I would have never said this, but he's really fricken grown on me. Maybe his more annoying tendencies I don't notice as much since he doesn't play weekly anymore?

But I appreciate him playing golf his own way, the quirkiness, and in a sea of Patrick Cantlay's and Harris English's-- he stands out.

Same and I shouldn’t like him as a Koepka fan.  His final round today showed he has balls of brass.  I think his YouTube channel has helped him grow on me like when he does fun stuff like play 9 holes with a full Wal-Mart beginner set and still shoots under par lol.

I don’t tell people that, but I think it’s kind of pathetic if they’re proud of it.

The spiel is that lower lofted modern clubs have the same shaped trajectory (descent angle) as older versions stamped with the same number, but they go longer.  It still think it is preferable to get distance via applying a fast club head to the ball and stopping it with spin because the descent angles aren’t meaningless necessarily but not as important as the marketing would have you believe.  Of course if you add loft all bets are off.  I could be wrong.

Would love to see the data but for some reason cannot find where the club makers have published it.

As to Bryson, he’s ok by me.

I've always liked Bryson.  I have enjoyed him progress and change through his career.  He's certainly interesting, and doesn't seem like a bad chap.

I just wish he hadn't gone to LIV.  I just don't see him much anymore.  This isn't a slag against LIV, I just find it hard to follow or like.

Today was a great day for golf fans.  Good broadcast with building tension towards the end.  Good for Xander!

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
