TSR Replacement?

Getting fit for a new bag for my birthday in July - Wondering if if I should wait to replace my TS2 for Titleist 2024 driver.

I know they're cycle is Aug/Sep but I haven't seen a single thing to even confirm they're releasing something new.

Anyone have any info?

TS2 10.5 w/ Smoke Black 60  6.0

GBB Epic 15 w/ HZRDUS 65 T800 6.0

816 H1 22 w/ Proforce 100 Stiff

T300 w/ PX LZ 6.0 5-GW

MG3 w/ PX LZ 5.5 52HB & 58HB

Odyssey Black #2

I have been a Titleist equipment guy since 2005ish.  It's my understanding, they have different release cycles for different equipment.  My new T100 series irons came out last August 2023, which is when I bought them.

I intend to replace my TSR2 3wd with a new 4wd, and maybe my TSR2 driver.  But for that to happen, improvement in Driver has to be recognized, not just cosmetics.

Then there's this: The TSR line of woods has been perhaps the best they brought to market and the most used on Tours; can't imagine what they can do to improve them, but I wait.

  • TSR2 9.25° Tensei 1k Pro Red 61S
  • TSR2 15° Tour AD-VF 74S
  • T200 17° 2i Tensei AV Raw White Hybrid 90S
  • T100 3i & 4i MMT 95S
  • T100 5i-9i MMT 105S
  • T100 PW MMT 105S 113-SW.
  • SM10 F52.12, T58.4, DG200 127S
  • SC/CA Monterey
  • DASH -ProV1x or AVX

Only you can really answer that question. Do you want the latest and greatest, or do you want the better value since they’ve been discounted $150 and to not have to wait until approx Oct or Nov (tsr came out late sept, if this one ends up being same then add time for fitting + time to receive your order)?

Personally I’m very happy with the tsr2 driver and will likely skip the next release (famous last words). I can see myself switching to the next version of the woods though. Tsr woods are pretty good. I just wish they were a little hotter. I have both tsr2 and tsr3 and they’re def not as hot as Paradym or the tm wood I had before that. They’re still the best woods for my game overall, just hoping Titleist can pull off something special in next release of them.

edit: to directly answer your question — yes they are due in the cycle this fall, and based on the massive thread you can find here, no, nobody knows anything about them yet, but sounds like we may begin seeing/hearing about them in June.

Get fit for the TSR but don’t buy it. Wait til new one comes out. Try the new one. Compare numbers. TSR will be at a significant discount to whatever the new model is. Make decision at that point. My guess is if you are buying a new driver, you’ll be hard pressed to justify an additional $150 (if they don’t hike the price on the new model) for the difference in performance. If it’s a legit 8-10 yards, buy the new one. If it’s not, buy the TSR.

Assuming he has to pay to get fit I would wait on the fitting. Otherwise the $150 difference in price is basically a wash. Ideally there's a place around he can hit the TSR2 for free then compare them with the most similar shaft possible.

yeah. I took “getting fit for my birthday” as it was a gift someone is giving OP. Still though, even if you have to pay for the fitting, if you’re getting other stuff too, can get fit for the driver and probably not increase cost.

Spot on.  The tsr 3 has been amazing. I've heard great things about the new one but it's gonna have to something special.

I have a TSR2 and a TSR3 driver and love them both. I'm eager -- as a Titleist fanboy -- to see what's next, but I won't be a first-in-line guy. I'm so happy with the current drivers that I'm happy to wait to buy one of the new ones used down the road.

As for the fairway woods, they were OK, but a fractional step down IMO from the TSi line. I've already moved to mostly hybrids, so I'm not waiting with bated breath to see what's coming in the FWW lineup. But I AM eager to feast my eyes on -- and test -- the 2-wood, if it's part of the next release.

True, just didn't know if he was able to wait 1-2 weeks and could get fit for the new stuff.

I typically wait for 6 months and get one second hand. I'm not forking $1k AUD for 3 meters 😄 ..... but happy to pay $500 for the head alone and sell my old head for $300. Thats exactly what I did with TSi3 to TSR3. $200 upgrades are the go, especially if you have a shaft that really works for you already.

Having said that, this week I just bought a TSR4 head for $450, I want to give it a crack in '3.5' mode to see if it works for me 😄

Nothing specific. Very tight lipped just that they've seen great numbers from it.

Internal Titleist employee. He works in department that oversees woods. R&D, tour seeding etc... he is friends with a PGA section pro I know. They've known each other for 30 years. My friend isn't a gossipy kinda guy is the only reason I mention what he said.

Got it. Yep and if your friend let too much get out it’d be the last time he heard anything 😬

Can’t speak on the release date but whether it’s worth waiting for is just a matter of your budget - or lack thereof. Regarding drivers, in all likelihood, you’ll be paying an extra $150 for **maybe** an extra few yards. Tech aside, unlike many other OEM’s, Titleist almost never makes major changes in cosmetics - which I think is nice, since it doesn’t make prior models appear outdated - but I guess cosmetics is besides the point.

The fairway woods, on the other hand, might be worth waiting for - there seems to be more changes with their fw woods than drivers from generation to generation. And I didn’t find the TSR fairways to be a noticeable upgrade from TSi or even older generations woods (i’m not saying they were a downgrade)

This also might be a bit irrelevant but I think it does speak to how minor, or rather insignificant, the improvements in equipment really are (in a general sense, sometimes there are notable improvements). Cantlay, JT, Horschel, and Harman come to mind - there are definitely others - of Tour staffers who still use some form of prior generation models; whether it’s driver, fairway woods, or both. Pretty sure all of the above use older generation fairway woods. Harman is still in Tsi2 driver. Took Cantlay until just very recently to switch out of his TS driver to TSR.

But I think it goes without saying that if money isn’t a factor, and you have the patience, then you might as well wait - because why not? It almost certainly won’t be a downgrade.

TSR4 for sure, please hit it. You may be surprised.  I just bought one back for 380 new with 1k black shaft.  Fastest BS I have gotten are with this, and lowers spin. My next adventure may be to hit with VC+. PM if interested in where I purchased.
