Nice guy, and makes great putters
Hey guys, I thought I'd let you know about my experience, I met Kirk Currie today, I went to Houston to meet with him and get fitted for a putter since I've had so many putting woes lately. i went to a family reunion just over a year ago and found out he was my second cousin through marriage, but anyways, he is a great guy, and Im actually going to go play with him about once a month, he plans on working with me until I hopefully breakthrough to the tour, right now Im a college freshman so i have a while, but anyways about the visit...

He used a fitting putter to get me to the length I liked the best, I just kind of set it down and it adjusted to the length and lie that felt comfortable to me. He gave me some tips and had me hit putts and worked from there with my aim and my stroke. then he went and cut a putter to a length which he didn't tell me and bent it to a loft and lie which he didnt tell me. I got home and measured the length, ive always played a 33" putter but his one is 31 and 3/4, so i was shocked at the difference it made in my putting, I am going to check the loft and lie tommorow so i can write down my specs. He gave me alot of helpful info about putting and the puttermaking buisness, and a job offer I might look into for the summers. All in all it was a great trip and a wonderful expeience, definitely worth doing to see the technology he has in the buisness.

right now he is working on a 36ft. tour trailer that will have everything, including high speed cameras, he plans on taking it to tour events and college campuses to do teaching and fitting.

Also one more thing I learned is that he was never "with" Nike, he only made a few prototypes for them, and he is actually talking to them now, he wants to be their puttermaker and he said they feel he is the man for the job. So look for some interesting things to come form Kirk Currie and his putters.

Another interesting side note is that he said he was about to sign with cleveland to do their putter line just before they bought never compromise with an offer they apparently couldnt refuse it was so cheap.

anyways thanks for reading guys

Also where Robert "The Chief" Parrish went to College - sorry the New England boys will understand our love... great story - I have a Kirk Currie Slazenger putter that I go to every so often - what an excellent putter! Sounds like you had a great experience.

I'd put kirk currie as my second favourite designer after tp mills. I've used the brazos and the trinity, and regret getting rid of them. Fantastic quality, I hope he finds something better than wilson to market his putters!

You know, I'd have to agree with the designer...not really keen on the line either. At first I thought, wow I can finally get my hands on more of them, but they all sit really shut for me. Perhaps in all that display they can bend them so they sit open in the store? I was a big fan of the #1 of the wilson line.

I also learned about putters sitting "open" or "closed" he showed me that it has nothinig to do with the putter, it has to do with your ball position, the farther up you move the putter the more the face will open, and the farther bak you move it the more it will close, he said this is the reason everyone should have a putter built to their specs. He also told me he would rather someone putt with a cheap putter from academy that fit them perfectly instead of buying an expensive off the rack putter that does not fit.

just soem interesting details i though id share

I met Kirk Currie maybe 12 years ago when he had a small manufacturing location in north Houston near The Woodlands.

I was talking to him about possibly making putters for a company I briefly had a distributorship with.

He was/is a very nice guy. I remember he loaned me some prototype putters he was working on to demonstrate his work.

He's bounced around from Slazenger to maybe Hogan before he came out with his own line-Wilson is the latest. He had/has a patent on the screw-in hosel found as part of many putters he's produced.

Where did you find his tour van?

Actually I didn't "find" him, I am related to him, so I just called him and talked to him about my putting problems, we went and played together and he offered to help me about once a month on my short game as long as I would play his putter. He still has that office in North Houston near the woodlands, he only lives 5 minutes from it and that is actually where he fit me at.
