Cleveland has so many blades out that people still used I'm not surprised. They have TA1's in play, TA-1FF's, all the 588's are considered "Tour Action." They have a brushed satin finish set I have seen, I think they were called CGTour's. Those are listed under TA's, they came out way before the CMM CG's. I saw a picture of them once, up for sale on ebay and have never been able to find another picture.

These would be listed as TA's also. Not sure if anyone uses them, but:

Wow, whatever those are, they are nice. I would definately get those if they ever came out! Another model with the progressive cavity back to blade. Great looks! I want them to at least make a model of iron without that CMM in it. It's good in the wedges, but i don't like the soft feel in my irons.

Those my friends were the first true forged set of irons Cleveland made, none of this "Form" forged crap, which isn't even forged! They are about 4-5 years old. I'd like to pistol whip the guy who decided to shelve that project!?! I HATE the CMM irons. They are crap, this coming from a huge cleveland fan. I hope they start figuring this crap out quick or its to the dark side I go!

I sure hope so cause I still wish that cleveland will bring back 588P chrome irons if they'll remake them. ;-)

Exactly! I like the feel of the CMM wedges, but with my irons I want something that's gonna last and look good for a long time. I don't mind wear and tear on the wedges, they aren't supposed to be looking too good. But, as for irons, I want something that looks and feels solid, even after 2 or 3 seasons of use. Those CG2s they have are a disgrace, the way they look on the back makes me want to throw up. If they keep making irons out of that CMM, i will be forced to go to the dark side. I mean, what's next? CMM drivers and fairway woods so you can have soft feel in those too? A line needs to be drawn. CG10s were and still are a success. But in this case, too much of a good thing isn't a good thing.

I want something that looks classic...Mizzys and Callys are looking very tempting right about now... :dntknw:

why all the hate on CMM? the irons look great at address, and you can actually feel the ball at impact. as for "callys" looking good? c'mon, you are talking about blades and you bring those shovels into the conversation? CMM is good stuff, period!

I thought I was the only one!! I love the feel of my CG2's, sure they are soft, but they are a darn solid iron!

Those are nice pics of the combo CG protos. I like em alot. I have the CG4s, btw, and i do dislike the cmm. Actually, i just don't really notice a big dif and would go for a buttered forged instead. Cleveland also needs to go like titleist with traditional lofts. My PW is one degree higher than titleist's 9 iron! I hate these lofts.

  • 1 month later...

For me, there is only 1 set of irons---- TA 7 Tour. The new CG4 Tour irons are the CG version of the TA 7 Tour. I'm a +.1 and this summer I played the best golf of my life and like an idiot I traded and got the MP 60's with 6.5 rifles. Well, after the 60's I had the Bridgestone combos then a set of S59 blue dots. I went back to the TA 7's and haven't missed a beat. The good news is that you can get TA 7 tours on ebay for nothing! I paid 185 for mine and have actually bought another set to fool around with different shafts.

If you look at the Cleveland website, you'll see that probably 90% of the staff are still hitting TA series of irons. Not good PR for cleveland since they have discontinued the line.

That combo set is awesome above!

AND, I know VJ is using CG1's but it's really the same club as his old TA-1's. No CMM material in his club, that's why the black on his clubs is a gunmetal and not a 'black pearl' color... I hope they go back to using the old stuff they had. If not, I'll just buy another set of TA-1's ad be set for quite awhile...

Those are excellent. They have a very 588P-ish look to the lines. Maybe these were the follow-on in CG prototyping to the remake of the 588P that Toms and Kaye used 2002-4?

I just missed picking up a set of the updated 588P proto (the TA-3 proto) Toms described in the 2002 GD WITB segment. Instead, I ended up with an EBay set of TA-3s that were described as "tour" but I had reservations...they were new and had the right ferrules and shaft labels, and I just wanted a good cavity back at the time.

But the irons turned out to be excellent. I couldn't tell much difference from the retail TA-3s, except that the chrome on the heads was very bright, and the inner surface of the cavity wasn't blasted, but was chrome. The clubs didn't have paint in the lowest groove either, but the medallions were brand new. The heads were heavy...D-5 spot on with no tip weights with X-100. A reasonable deal for $400 brand new I thought.
