any love?
hey guys........i was at the local shop last night and the sales guy there was telling me about the r7 XD irons........i've read a little bit about them and grabbed some information about these....but i was wondering what everyone else's feeling about these were........any love?

i heard and read that they are an "in between" from the os and the cgb? more technology than the os but less of a price tag than the r7cgb!

let me know what you think.....it's like i don't need another set in my bag...........but was just wondering if anyone's hit them and seriously considering them..............they are just as forgiving as the os.........but look twice as nice!

peace :dntknw:

Hi Guys,

I played these irons for the last 4 rounds of the season and love them. I may put DG SL's in them for the upcoming season though. IMO these irons are in between the OS and CGB (have played them both). Let me know if I can answer any questions.

hey thanks for the reply.............right now......what do you have for shaft? does the shaft give you a good feedback?

so do you think it would be a great "upgrade" from my current os2s that i'm playing..........more technology?

how about workability?

sorry, there's a lot of questions, but then again, there's a lot of irons out there also.......are these the set that as you improve, you don't need to really get another set to match your playing ability?

I definitely think they are an upgrade from the OS2. I have the stock stiff shaft in them now. I think they provide good feedback in both the shaft and head. I don't buy much into the lack of feel and workability topic with cavity backs because I know when I miss a shot with these and I had no problem hitting a draw or cut. The toughest shot in golf is the straight one, so I always look for the club that can help me accomplish this. I have the CGB's, MP 60's and the R7 XD's so I am all over the board with equipment but it is a visual thing with me and I prefer to look down at a thicker head. I currently play to a GHIN handicap of +0.9 and will probably start the new season with these in my bag. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions about these irons.

MY opinion is this is great hype by Taylor made how this R7 inverted cone is going to equate to more distance etc....i dont buy it...its just another one of there irons...however sometimes people believe the hype and well then its a great choice for them....I have nothing against Taylor Made...they make great stuff

If you've got the swing speed and launch angle, I would also recommend the LT2's. I saw your post on the XD's before heading to the pro shop. I like the looks of the LT2 better than the others listed here. Just my 2 cents.

Don't know what swingspeed or launch angle has to do with playing the LT2's? They are a fairly forgiving cavity back iron with a fair amount of offset that are easy to get airborne. The shaft weight and stiffness will have more to do with getting these irons the proper launch angle. The stock steel shafts are 110 grams and easily playable for most golfers.

Taylor Made recommends a driver swing speed of over 90 MPH for these irons. They also do claim a low to mid launch angle is what you would expect from the LT2's. So, if you driver swing speed isn't over 90, and you don't get the ball in the air well, other TM models would probably suit a person better than the LT2's.

so you sayin' check the lt2s before the xds?

I would check the LT2's before the R7 XD's. If I were looking at strickly irons from TM, I personally like the LT2's the best. Thinner top line, and they don't launch the ball too high. I tried out a set of the 540XD's today (because I was looking at a stiff flex shaft for my backup irons), and I skied the 540xd's. Hit them higher than my TA6's (with "R" flex shafts in them). If the R7XD's are launch as high as the 540XD's, I would go for the LT2's. I liked how they performed during my iron testing.

will do so.......since the lt2s are probably at a lower price tag for now! thanks for the opinion and i will take that into considerations! are the lt2s harsh on mishits............? i want a iron set that has ball flight (mid low to mid high, i don't know if there's such thing) and not extreamely hight..........i'm not sure if the r7xd will be extremely high or just in line with the lt2.............i've demoed the lt2s back then but i must go and demo them one more time.......probably along the same time as the xds to compare them.........

basically, i want this set to be as easy as possible to hit..........ok on mishits......not a very high ball flight......nice at adress and in the bag........not a shovel..........clean and crips design...........just something pleasing to the eyes.

would you consider the x18 pros................

i want to be able to work the ball as i get more experience in the game...........i want to be able to play the same set of irons for a while even if i improve my score........i want a set that is geared towards all types of player...........it's does't matter if it's from taylormade, callaway, ping, nike, whatever........just something that will let me enjoy the game.........although i really love the mizzy 23s....io'm not looking for a set to back that back up set..................i want to be able to switch set depending on day and how i feel!

holla back!

I thought the LT2's handled mishits pretty well. Not as good as the MX-23's, but I was surprised at how well the LT2's played for me. They had the thinner top line. They looked pretty good, and for a cast club they gave good feedback. They were pretty forgiving as well. Definately check them out when you go to hit the XD's. For me, the LT2's outperformed the Callaway X18's, and Ping G5's. Only got to waggle the Ping I5, but it may also be a consideration for you, as it has a thinner profile than the G5.

How are your MX-23's?

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive. Holidays have slowed them down, but I'm in no rush for them right now.

hey, thanks for the comments..........i'm in no rush either............with the holidays in between and it's the offseason for golf............i had my put on layaway at the shop.........i do have enough to pick them up now if i want, but i decided to go this route..........got a couple birthdays coming up and this time of the year is pretty busy for me and everyone else........money wise........it so happens that in my family, all the birthdays, anniversary, etc falls within this time of the year, starting the firsst week of november and it goes all the way into the end of march.............lots of birthdays mean lots of gift means less money to spend on golf equipment.......but i managed this year to get two brand new set of golf equipment (driver - putter) and still have enough for birthdays, holidays, etc............but i wanna play it safe........i'll just wait to p/u my set at the end of march..... season doesn't really start until the end of march/start of april anyways!

anyways, while i'm waiting, i've been doing a lot of research on different irons, golf company and have gain a substantial amount of information. i should stop because when i read up on a certiain type of irons, clubs, i tend to want to try it out and trade in my clubs for that set...........this is bad and is almost sick!

but for now, i'm considering trading in my rac os2 for r7xd or cally x18 pros.

love my mizzys though.. :) .......the indoor demoed session was awesome and i can't wait to get it out into the real world to try them out!
