Nike SasQuatch Sumo Squared Fairway Wood

The straightest route from the tee to the pin is now brought to you by the square geometry of the SasQuatch Sumo Squared Fairway Wood. The shape distributes weight to the farthest corners of the club, giving you forgivingly straight shots out of any lie.

The low CG (center of gravity) of the Nike PowerBow design and the large sweet spot of the Cryo Steel face get the ball up and out of any lie in a hurry, making your trip from Point A to Point B faster than you thought possible.

Features:

  • Nike PowerBow Weighting — In the Sasquatch Sumo Squared Fairway, weight is strategically positioned at the farthest corners of the Nike PowerBow design while the optimized CG location makes it easier to get the ball off the ground and deliver pinpoint accuracy
  • Cryo Steel Face — Lightweight Cryo Steel material provides a large, responsive sweet spot for maximum distance and increaced forgiveness across the clubface

I picked up one of these two weeks ago. Haven't tried it out on the course yet, but I did use it on a simulated launch monitor before the purchase. For a beginner that has played approximately 5-6 rounds since starting last year, this club really made a difference. My hits were longer and straighter than usual. Don't get me wrong, I didn't immediately go from a slicer to straight as an arrow. Normally, 5-10 hits go where I want it. With this club, I would say that 6-7 shots went straight and went longer than I have ever been able to go.

I'll post an update after using this club at the range and/or course.

After trying out 4 other fairway woods, I have been playing this fw wood for several weeks. I am really impressed with how forgiving this club is. Mis-hits tend to stay in play, and I attribute a lot of that to the design. Hitting this square head off the deck is a lot easier than I expected. My search for a 15 degree fw wood is over.

Regarding the shaft, I was prepared not to like it, as I generally do not like the OEM shafts in most woods. But so far, I do like this shaft. The feel is very good, with a nice kick feel on a good swing. (Not as good as the Accuflex Icon shaft I have in another club, but nearly as good). I have been watching for the fatal soft tip problem but I have not really seen it. For me, ball flight is penetrating in most wind conditions, and it takes a really stiff headwind to get the ball to balloon.

Regarding the flex, I bought the stiff flex. My driver speed is 98-100 with ball speed at 144-148, with a smooth transition and smooth tempo. Players with quick transitions may find stiff flex to be too soft. If you can try it out at a range, and the ball flight seems high or ballooning, you probably need to go up a flex, or special order a different shaft.

Needing a 3 wood and loving my 5900 driver, this was the first club I turned to. I got the 15* with the stiff Diamana shaft and was initially extremely happy. I have never been able to hit a 3w off the fairway and I was making contact with this club. I was going mostly straight, but I wasn't hitting it very high. I thought maybe it was the shaft. My dad got the same club with the stock regular shaft. He hits it nice and high... I hit it the same as the stiff shaft.

Still, I was able to make contact and get the ball 190-200 or so down the fairway. Then, I bought a Nike 2h 17* that got me the same distance. On a whim I also purchased an Adams XTD A3 15* with the regular DVS shaft (1/2" shorter than the nike shaft). 20 more yards than the Nike 3w and a good 10 feet higher in the air. In fact, I'm almost hitting the A3 as far as my short driver shots... highlighting that I need a new shaft in my driver... but that's for another thread :)

I don't think the head of this club is bad. Like the 5900, it does what it says it will and that's eliminate side-spin to help you shoot straighter. I just don't really have the patience or money to be able to swap shafts in and out and change lengths until I find one that works. The A3 was cheaper anyway, so the Nike likely goes up on eBay while they're selling like hotcakes ;)

Picked up one of these free with the 5900. Stiff Diamana 15* Standard Lie and Length

Hit about half a bucket of balls with it today and was pleasantly surprised with the launch and carry. This could be one of the easiest FW to hit off of the deck, as any mishits still tend to stay straight. This club will also be showing up on the tee boxes of many par 4's.

My natural shot shape is about a five yard cut, and applying extra effort to work the ball resulted in a fifteen yard cut or about a five yard draw. Honestly, I had heard so much about the High-MOI designs being so difficult to work that I was surprised to be able to continually apply some shape in either direction, albeit small.

Great club, and well worth using especially if you get it with the 5900
