Callaway Golf '08 X Fairway Wood / X Tour Fairway Wood

Based on feedback from some of the best players in the world, Callaway Golf engineers have re-energized the best-selling fairways woods in the game. The new X Fairway Woods are designed to deliver for golfers every time they hit the course. The most significant upgrade is the addition of the highly successful Modified X-Sole Design featured in X Hybrids. This design lowers the leading edge and provides clean turf interaction from the rough or the fairway. The clubs also feature a slightly larger head size for better stability and slightly deeper face for a larger effective hitting area and higher confidence at address.

Features:

  • Modified X-Sole design provides versatile turf interaction and lowers the leading edge to help get the ball in the air
  • New head shape is slightly larger for a higher MOI (center of gravity) and the slightly deeper face increases the effective hitting area
  • Increased perimeter weighting provides superior stability on miss-hits and optimizes ball flight trajectories
  • Callaway Golf core technologies include VFT and S2H2

I just received my X Tour Fairway 15 deg the other day and finally got a chance to take it out on the range vs. my Burner TP 3 wood. (14.5) I warmed up by hitting about 50 balls (pw,8,5,8,5) and then hit 5 sets of 5 balls with each club (50 total) and the dispurtion pattern with the X Tour was slighly less than my Burner TP. Trajectory control was similiar. Don't get my wrong, the Burner TP is a fine club, but I will be putting the X Tour in my bag to start the golf season on Saturday.

4/5. This club sets up nicely behind the ball. The face is not closed like the burner 07, and the stock shaft is better than the stock R7 st shaft. The face feels pingy at impact. One negative is that the clubhead makes a clunk sound at impact. This also occurs with the FT-i squareway wood. Therefore it doesn't have the one-piece feel. The positives are: its easy to hit and okay out of the rough. I like the small-sized head.

BTW I have the regular (non tour) version.

I have both the 3 Wood 15 degree and 5 wood 18 degree. I the 5 wood is superb and I out hit most of my competitors mainly because I can keep it straight and because of the explosive distance. The 5 wood is my go-to club when a hole requires that a player keep it in the fairway. It's the best 5 wood I've ever played. I recently switched from a Tour Exotics and hit the Callaway further and straighter with superior trajectory control.

I am still getting used to the 3 wood. I've never been strong with a 3 wood, but this is the first time I have gained some comfort. I was fitted for the club at the Callaway fitting center in Carlsbad. I only hit the 3 on wide open par 5's when bunkers are not an issue, otherwise I rarely hit it. That said, when I hit it well, I hit it just as far as my driver and with a more boring trajectory.

I use the 3 wood as a driver alternative to replace the Steelhead III that has been in my bag for about 5 years, I bought it because I really like the Hyper X driver. Very forgiving, great feel and it is perfect for this due to its deeper face. I have had this club for a few months and am very happy with it, I have yet to use it off the fairway. It has mid flight and just feels really solid, another great wood from Callaway.

I like this club more each time I play it. Easy to hit and has good distance despite the fact that it lacks a carpenter steel or titanium face. The stock shaft has almost 5 degrees of torque according to Callaway customer service, and I will be replacing it soon. Has that traditional Callaway appearance. Does not really stand out in a particular area, but it has proven to be a very reliable wood.
