Decided to check out the Mn Golf Academy instead of playing in the rain. But I don't think I can go back to the snow up north tomorrow without playing. So might have to put the big boy pants on and tough it out. If anyone's open. 5 months just way to long to wait to play again

I'm a Texan but both my parents were from The Iron Range.

I've spent a vacation, sometimes 2 or 3, in MN nearly year of my life.

I own property up there and am spending months instead of weeks there every summer now.

I see mention of Giants Ridge and The Wilderness --- which are surely the best 3 public courses in close proximity in the state. (And The Villas @ Giants Ridge have rentals which can sleep as many as 12, with sauna, and hot tub!)

What I don't see, is any mention of the additional golf opportunities closeby those 3 courses.

For golfers planning a multi-day trip, Da Range is tough to beat because, in addition to the 3 "biggies", the area also has:

(1) Mesaba CC in Hibbing

A nice, challenging 18 hole private course with a range. They allow public play, have a range, and Kevin McHale is a member.

(2) Virginia Muni

Well maintained 18 holer with a range.

(3) Several interesting 9 hole courses - Eveleth GC, Wolf Ridge GC, etc.

You can have quite a week playing golf on Da Range!
Giants Ridge happens to be my favorite golf destination in Minnesota and, unlike Tex, my son isn't the head pro at any of those courses which prompts me to come on here and provide biased commentary and PR to increase business. I encourage everyone to visit Biwabik/Tower, but a little disclosure would be nice, Tex.

Wow!

This being a MN discussion group, I would assume that all readers, and contributors know all about the top courses.

Seems to me I was attempting to advertize the other area courses.

I've never seen Mesaba, Virginia, Eveleth, or Wolf's Ridge mentioned here, and was mentioning them to MNers.

Been a member for a long time, but rarely post, and just got a refresher course on why.

This is my final post on this site!

It was quite chilly to start the round, but a great day @ Eagle Valley. Got paired up with some good guys that could play and everyone shot pretty darn well. Had 3 birdies on the back for -1 36. Started on #2 for the shotgun, so had to come back and play #1 into the wind to end it and of course bogey. +3 38 for the front 9. #18 I crushed a drive and wedged it to two inches for birdie. That would have been the way to end it!
Forecast not looking good after Wednesday. I think one last go at Tanners Brook is in order tomorrow...

Got one more in @ Gross National today! It was a chilly one. Kept it together really well though shooting even par 35 on the front side with offsetting birdie and bogey. Birdied #10, but bogey'd 13 & 14. It was getting really cold at that point with the wind. Had looks at birdie the last 4 holes but couldn't get them to go. +1 37. Played with some old guys that were sticks. It was fun. One of them was 71, walking, and must have shot a 78 or so. 9 time senior champ at Brookview. It was fun to watch. Great end to the season if that was it. Really enjoyed meeting some new people here on WRX and playing some rounds together, and hope we can do it again next season!

Well, looks this is it. The weather is not promising to get better in the near future. And even thinking how sad is finally seeing the season going away, I have to say this year ended with a very positive balance for all of us. For me in particular, meeting all of you, making so many new friends willing to play golf with a call, a tweet, a pm or an email, that was really great. Free advice in clubs and swings too.
The best part definitely, the interaction with the families of Golfwrx (the Dahls, the Jensens, the Marschkes...), my hole in one witnessed by Marckilgore, and the event in Prestwick with 24 enthusiasts from this website.
Hope some of us can practice in the winter time, or join me in a trip down south.

Yes the season is done the pins are put away at northfork! It was great meeting new golfing buddies that's for sure. In away I'm kind of glad the season is done for me. I had my worst year in years. My hcp went up 3 points and just played like crap all year. I only got 29 rounds in and no range time. Did not have a fun year and I'm sure the guys that played with me didn't have fun either.

I hope to go down to Arizona in late February or early march depending on my kids hockey season. My god child is a head pro at Tonto verde and they have 3 courses plus TPC Scottsdale is fun to play.

Intolerance, sure. A-hole, probably. Ignorance? Probably not a fair assertion on your part.

If I'm going to get some honest feedback on new equipment or a golf course I don't mind the opinions of someone with a vested interested in the product or resort, but I think it's only fair to disclose that up front. Is that really too much to ask?

I thought this portion in particular sounded more like an infomercial. He did everything but offer a toll free number and say "tell 'em Tex sent ya." I guess only Tex can comment on his true motivation, but search every post he has ever made on here or Bombsquad and decide for yourself.

Stage,

Over the last 8-10 years, I have posted many more reviews on various websites, of different golf courses, world wide, than you have total posts. I do it regularly and the courses are spread over the entire U S. and several foreign countries. Every review I have ever done has been positive. I often comment on how to get there, where to stay, where to eat, and what else there is to do in the area of the course.

I strive to play the best courses in the world, and have been fortunate enough to have played many highly rated courses - highly rated by golf publications and course ratters , several of whom I know.

My interest is sharing good golf experiences with fellow golf enthusiasts. My most recent posts, and recommendations to play, were about Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes, and Old MacDonald in Bandon, Oregon. Other courses which I have commented positively on include; TPC San Antonio - Oaks and Canyon, TPC Sawgrass, Medinah #3, Cog Hill, Blackwolf Run Lake, Pinehurst #2, Harbour Town, Augusta National, Colonial, Southern Hills, Olympic, Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Cypress Point, Harding Park, Golf Club of Montevideo, Royal Johannesburg, Hiroshima Golf Club, River Ridge, The Falls, Blaketree National, Whispering Pines, Champions Crypress Creek, The Bluffs on Thompson Creek, etc, etc. In MN, I have posted positive reviews for Giants Ridge, The Wilderness, Superior National, Mesaba, Virginia, Eveleth, Wolf Ridge, Maple Ridge, Bemidji Town and Country, Wildflower, The Pines, Deacon's Lodge, the now closed sand greens course in Gonvick, etc.

I have many friends and relatives in the golf industry, and have even been a distributor/ francise owner for a golf equipment company, but have never reviewed a course, or equipment, with the intention of criticizing courses which might compete with places I like. I have a lot of experience in the golf industry and enjoy sharing with others.

As for Northern Minnesota, both my parents were born and raised there. Both of my grandfathers were in the iron mining industry on the Iron Range of northern MN. I have spent practically every summer of my life there. We are fortunate enough to own property there, some of it passed down though several generations to us. So, in fact, we are Minnesota people. I have many relatives residing in Minnesota today.

When I support Northern Minnesota, I do so as a person originating in Minnesota, and who pays Minnesota taxes on Minnesota properties. Though my job has sent me to live in other locations, I have made the trip back to Minnesota over 80 times in my life.

As to what perceived profit can be gained from a positive review on an Internet website, you should explain. Possibly you have no idea how the golf business works. Employees at golf courses do not share in the profits or losses a course accumulates. They are employees, working on an hourly or salaried basis.

Possibly you believe that everything you read on the Internet is to be instantly believed, rather than doing your own evaluations?

When you demand that I disclose to you every detail of my life, I might ask you to also disclose your qualifications to criticize my honest attempts, over many years, to share positive golf experiences with others.

And yes, I support Minnesota businesses and especially northern Minnesota industry and people!

My favorite handguns, for instance, are invented and hand built by Boberg Arms, of White Bear Lake, MN. They produce the world's finest and most powerful pocket pistols!

My favorite bakery is The Italian Bakery in Virginia, MN.

My favorite vacation city in MN is Ely.

My favorite state parks are Gooseberry Falls and Headwaters.

And, BTW, if you tell any of the places mentioned that Texsport sent you - they'll have absolutely no idea what you are talking about!

Have a good day, and above all else - play more golf!

When I'm looking to hit golf balls with a stick, I usually head to Golf Zone, down SW metro. There are a few domes here and there, but domes are only worth so much. Though, they do allow you to actually swing the club and see a few dozen yards of ballflight. <shrug>

Winter is the off season for me. I used to go to the Goodrich dome, but my swing gets so steep on mats it would take a month to un-do what the winter practice would do to my swing! I usually break down once or twice a winter and hit @ the heated stalls in Lake Elmo.
