It's been a crazy mild Winter (too mild, for my liking)...

 

Really had the feeling of Spring last week at points...I've gotten to the Golf Dome in North St. Paul a couple times and my swing feels fairly solid...I've picked up four more sets of irons in the last couple weeks alone - my basement is starting to look like 2ndswing lol.

 

Hopefully it won't be too much longer although I have a feeling this "Winter" will linger with a few trouble snows in March and April. We will see...

Thinking about heading south - far enough to find a golf course open.

 

 

Anyone know the quickest route to get to a golf course, south of the Twin Cities?

The easiest is getting in the car and driving south on I-35, so long as travel time isn't part of your calculation for "easy." Supposed to hit the 60s over the weekend in both KC and St Louis. <shrug>

(I have no info on individual courses, sadly)

I was fortunate enough to get out to the RTJ trail last week. Played 18 Tuesday and 45 holes Thursday. I thought it'd be enough to hold me over, but I played well randomly, and now the itch is worse than ever!

 

Hopefully we get something together for a wrx outing this year!

Bos Landen in Pella, IA is supposed to open the 27th. Thats about 4 hours from the Cities.

I'd be shocked if the Marsh isn't open Saturday but, the pics on their website today didn't look really promising.

 

Probably depends weather Friday is sunny or not, get that extra melt in.

Look up Chilicothe, Missouri. They have a stay and play package that is a really good deal. It's closer than KC and the town is a nice sleepy little golf town. All the hotels participate in the stay and play. not a bad track either.

Going to be unseasonably warm the next week for a stretch of 4 days or so...could it be true, this season is starting in the not-too-distant future???

I hear tell Cedar Creek in Albertville is opening Sunday. The friend of mine telling me this also mentioned they are already fully booked. Go figure. LOL

 

I hear other places around are opening. Likely the usual suspects of early opening. I haven't looked at Albion Ridges in years, but with the relative lack of tree cover, I would expect they could be a candidate.

I would expect a bunch of places to open by next weekend. Starting Sunday all of the lows are above freezing for the week with highs of at least 50. Should thaw out the ground enough fairly quickly.

 

I've heard rumor's Northfork could be opening by Thurs or Fri next week, but nothing official. Grounds crew was out working today though so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Yeah definitely, my buddy and I played Proctor at least 10 times last summer its a fun little course, feels good to be able to drive a couple par 4s. Played a scramble there as well, great course for that. Have to say Nemadji is my favorite though, played there a couple times a week last year.

havent played Nemadji in a few years. Don't mind it, it's very open and forgiving. Might have to try it again.

I played the back nine at Oak Marsh last Saturday because the front wasn't open yet. It was fairly swampy, as expected, but not unplayable and the greens were not bad considering the conditions. Place was packed too!
