R7 425 Face Angle

I just got off the phone with a TM customer service rep from their custom fitting department. I was trying to get additional info about the shafts in the TP model and more specifically, how they compared to more commonly known models. The rep said the 55g model was comparable to the Fuji SIX except tighter and slightly lower launching and the 65g model would play like a much tighter NV. Sorry, I didn't ask about the 75g model, but the early report I got warned that it was a really stout shaft. I also asked for confirmation on the face angles of the standard and TP models. The rep said that the standard R7 425 has a 0.5* closed face while the TP 425 has a 1.0* open face. I asked how this compared to the original R7 and TP and was told they were 0.5* closed and square, respectively. Hope this helps with your decision!

The 425 is a decent amount MORE than .5° closed.

I know this is an old thread. Does anyone else have comments on how square the face of the regular 425 is vs the TP? I am more interested in the regular because the TP is way too much $$$$$$$$$.

I have an 8.5* Tour Issue r7 425 and it's 1.5* open. It has the 55 gram shaft in "X" flex and is very good. Definitely a tighter feeling SIX (since that is my normal shaft) with a little lower flight. I'm going to yank the 55 REAX and put a Tour Spec SIX "X" in it just for comparison. As far as face angles go, the tour issue is more open than the TP (which looks square) and the retail is significantly more closed looking. It could be as much as 2* to my eye.

Regular 425=2* closed

And all of those specs have a variation of + or - .5 degree so unless it is tour selected you can get a wide variety of face angles just due to manufacturing tolerances.

With the closed face angle if you set the screws to fade, does that even it out or does anyone know how that works?

IMHO...you have to put a block move on it just to square the face at impact. The other thing to remember about closed face angles is that if you do square them up (open them) you also add a little loft at impact. It's no different except the opposite of open faced drivers which the effective loft is decreased when they are squared up. the idea on the closed faced drivers is to help the average guy square it up, eliminate the slice (just a little bit) and get the ball in the air.

Thanks guys. I will just wait for the 905R since it isn't nearly as much, and has a square face. I hate closed faces, if it looks closed, I don't want it.
