It's me mate. The beard is my homage to William Petersen of CSi fame - although it repeatedly bites the dust as a result of an Executive Order by my beloved partner...

I actually look quite smart there - with somewhat-tamed locks. Currently, I've got a bit of a Justin Rose thing going on.

The man behind the mask... Its funny how you have a perception of someone and there totally different to how you imagined them to be lol... Imagined you to be alot older considering you appreciate the finer things in golf as it were, old school blades, classic putters....

But must say, i think were living in a parallel universe in regards to the facial hair, helps with the ladies :( especially when your a 17 year old and having the 22 year olds diggin ya thinking your the same age.... As long as i dont mention the golf part of my life :russian_roulette:

That's a healthy glow there... As a child, my mother admits to surreptitiously pinching my cheeks to put some colour in them when she met someone she knew - as she was worried that my deathly pale face would make me look neglected... It's either a healthy glow, or I'd just eaten some beetroot sandwiches by the look of it.

And yes, I do get let out on the course. I have to sneak on at dawn and pull my collar up when I pass near the Secretary's office though. :russian_roulette:

Change of plan.

After taking a couple of putters with me to the course today for a friend to try, I hit a few putts with one of them on the putting green and decided to give it a whirl on the course myself after proceeding to hole a few 20 footers with it. A Newport TeI3.

The only reason I've still got the putter is that it's a while since I played a course with a water hazard, but it performed well today so it's earned a spot for a bit. It's a pain in the backside to keep oiling it and every time I smell fertiliser I get a cold sweat on, but it's performed well.

Mate, if I'd had some spare string in the bag that putter would have been for a ride down the A1 more than once - attached to the back of the car.

I'm no fan of the marshmellow Teryllium feel, but now the greens are getting a bit quicker it seems to be working well; or at least better. I still missed a few makeable putts today, but the results were encouraging.

I also like plain putters, with no sightlines, so it fits the bill with that big empty black cavity glistening away...

The main drawback is I feel like a masseuse every time I touch the greasy clubhead.

Mmmm baby oil....

On a more putter related note; I've never tried any of the TeI3's, only my circa's which I love(although I do abuse them :clapping:)

They are under threat however, spotted a satin black Ping redwood Piper-S the other day, drop dead gorgeous(apart from the funky double bend shaft, what are they all about!?), and it holed putts from everywhere. £165 though? F*ck that!

I've long believed that my destiny lies with an Anser/Newport design. I've got eight putters in my stable (4 Pings and 4 SCs) and 7 of them are Ansers or Newports of some description. Most of the other short-lived putters I've had in recent years have also been similar. This is a belief that has little or no basis in fact mind, since my putting (at least in respect of makeable birdie putts) has been distinctly average for over a decade now.

I keep meaning to buy a nice B60. Some of my best ever golf was played with a borrowed B60 and, like a fool, I didn't make up a story about it having been nicked from my bag when the owner wanted it back...

I also had a bit of a mad streak with an old My Day at one time. But that also was an extended loan that had to be returned.

Perhaps I'll put some of the little spare money I have these days into an eBay purchase or two...

I'll update the thread with the putter after the next round I play, as usual...

Strangely enough, in my youth, we had years of hotly-contested greenside competitions around the practice green armed only with a Maxfli balata and a sand wedge whilst playing for big stakes: usually practice balls. I remember holing more putts with the front edge of a sand wedge than Brad Faxon on angel dust...

With a finely-crafted putter in my hands, and no pressure, I'm hopeless.

I've tallied up my round today and although I holed a few, I still took 31 putts - including a missed couple of five footers for pars and three 10 to 12 foot birdie putts in a row on the front nine plus a couple more on the back side.

I'm off to the register office tomorrow to change my middle name to 'Sergio' by deed poll...

Hi Marvin,

Send my regards to Rex, Fido and Spot.

I saw some of the Tiger Nike Blades in American golf today... 1* up X100 golf pride full cords, laser engraved...

Looked so modern and WOW sitting there in the stand then you look at them sitting in the bag with old Marvin and a red headcover and thats what makes them pure ;)

They still have a swoosh on em

Only joking mat

It's amazing how many people remark on the Nike badge in all the time I've bagged these. Most people either seem surprised that anyone's playing Nike irons, or they'll come out with the old 'Don't you prefer Mizunos or something' when they see a set of Nike blades. It's amazing how some brands can polarise opinion. I've seen one other set of Nike blades out on the course in the last 6 years or so, and not many sets of Pro Combos or CCIs despite them being solid clubs. When I play with someone who's a blade player, I bet half are hitting Mizuno, a quarter are hitting Titleists, and the remainder will be Taylor Made RACs or some old faithful Maxflis or something. Great irons that they are, I think the swoosh turns people off them.

I've always said that the Nikes are the equal of anything I've played, feel and performance-wise, and I'd stack them up against my old 681s or Mizunos any day. The overall quality is excellent and the consistency of the clubs through the set is spot on. I had an early set that were a bit hit-and-miss with the headweights, but the second set I'm using now are absolutely bang on - and only the 681s and Ping Eye 2s have ever achieved that in all the clubs I've owned.

Incidentally, I had a quick 9 this morning and they performed OK - so that's the main thing. :)

I played an SQ Tour 9.5 with a Grafalloy Blue in it for a while and it was a good driver.  The only drawback with the thing was a niggling inability to turn it over consistetly. I hit it solidly, but I always had it in the back of my mind that the right hand semi was going to see some action. Obviously, however well you flight it, that's no way to be going on with the big stick.

That lemon bon bon Harrison shaft was something you either loved or hated though, both performance-wise and aesthetically...

I'm on a run..

After bagging a new putter, I've just got this sand wedge back after a bit of fettling and it's in the bag for the time being on trial. It's only hit chips and flop shots in the garden thus far, but you never know...

I've also had my old MP14s and my 681s spruced up - with a bit of sandblasting on the faces and chrome polishing courtesy of a friend who's done a cracking job with them.

I've never been so insulted in my life.... :partytime2:

No, it did lawfully find it's way into my posession, thanks to a benevolent friend. The irony is, the number of clubs I've 'lent' to people in the last few years that have never been seen again is staggering. It'd take me until the middle of next week to fill out all the crime reports for the thefts.
