- A new forged design created from the original 550M tooling, with a completely new sole design for greater playability and more consistant shotmaking.

- Full face to back radius sole with heavily radiused leading edge to deliver more shotmaking consistency from lies in the fairway and rough.

- Thin topline, low offset and classic players' shape make the 555M a design admired by all discerning golfers.

- True forged from the 1035 soft carbon steel through a 5-step forging process which affords greater production shape/grind consistency.

- 555C and 555M are designed to match perfectly with each other for true custom set makeup.

- New satin nickel chrome plating finish with glass bead blast highlights and new cosmetics, offered in #3-9, PW, AW, SW.

I had a set of these custom made, 3-PW, after playing a set of Nike Ignites off the rack for about a year. I decided I was ready to play a muscle back because I liked the way they look, and after hitting them how good they feel and perform. I am not an awesome golfer so these took about a month to get the feel down. I guess I am a traditionalist in a semi-hacker's body.

After a month I am very happy with these clubs. They feel good when I hit them properly and the ball flight is what I like. They shoot out a little bit and start going up, then come down in a nice arc. I believe when I get even better these clubs will be weapons in my hands. If you have a clubmaker in your area that makes these it would be a good idea to go there and hit a few to see how they perform in your hands.

The clubs were made to standard specs because I am "standard" in the world of golf; ie., height, lie, length, flex, shaft, etc. The only thing special is the Lamkin Crossline grips. Don't know if I like them on this club though.

I gave them a four because they are a great club, but I do not have the breadth of experience/knowledge to compare them to the array of clubs out there.

Right. My mind is made up - thank you for your thoughts. Next year, I am going to go for a custom build set of Wishons, probably doing a split set cavity back 3, 4 & 5 then blades 6-PW. All I need is someone to do them for me in South West England, and the cash to get them done.

Somehow, I think the latter will be harder than the former :( . Any idea what the UK retail price would be for these, allowing for an S300-type shaft and a roughly standard setup?

OllyS1971 as it appears your based in Oxford you could try a clubmaker called John Whitehead who is based near Northampton and hence not a million miles down the road. His company is called Strikeright Golf.

Not sure about costs but he'll certainly be able to help with what your looking for. He'll give you some honest advise without putting a hard sell on you!

Looking at getting a combo set of 555 C & M Wishons at the moment. Can anyone give an opinion on how these feel relative to a Mizuno or Titleist forged club? I assume not as good but is it night and day or just a little less impressive? Are these OK for 12 h'cap to play?

shoot54today, how did the 550s wear overtime?
I just purchased a set of 555M, 7-PW, 555C 4-6 iron, on FST Pro 125 shafts, x-flex. Wow. These are sweet. Outstanding soft feel with a nice penetrating ballflight. I have a set of 550's on Wishon Steel 5 shafts that I loved, but the 555's are much mo betta. As stated, these are sweet.
Im looking at both the 555 and the 550, how do they differ? Im looking for the most playable of the two- IE, more traditional lofts and least amount of offset.

Thnx

In the interest of full disclosure, I have worked for Tom Wishon since June 2003.

The 550's are made using a 1035 soft carbon steel, which is a bit harder than what you'll find in many companies' forgings. Usually companies use very soft material in their forgings for two main reasons. One is that there is a false perception among golfers that 'softer' material feels softer at impact that they want to capitalize on. The other is that in the process of forging heads, using a softer material allows for more heads to be produced from the same tooling over the long haul and if it's a company that is making tens of thousands of forgings, they want to get all the life out of them that they can to keep production costs down.

Tom chose the slightly tougher material so that the clubs wouldn't show the typical little nicks from the bag chatter that occurs over time. And they are more durable in that regard, but are still just as bendable and feel just as soft as any other forging out there.

In terms of feel, I played the 550's for the first three years in coming to work with Tom, after having played only forged blades for 26 years and these are right where you'd expect them to be for their category.

I hope this helps!

I have a combo set of 550's and 555's. I currently play the 555's. These are some of the best irons I have ever played! I have the set shaft with PX 6.0 softstepped 1x @0.25" over standard.

These irons are a players iron yet the low irons are easy to get up. The 3-iron has become my 220 yard fairway finder on shorter, tight holes. I cannot say enough about the quality of these clubs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

I'm in the market for new irons, had a set of Bridgetsones J38's, one month old stolen from me, dang.

I'm currently looking at the Wishon 560MC's. Saw the 555C and the 560MC heads at the club builder this week, both are impressive, 555C reminds me of a Mizzie MP-53 or MP-63 but definitely different, not a knock off at all, unique to Wishon, just if I had to describe it thats how I would say it looks to someone who never saw one. After reading many reviews and seeing the heads I definitely want a set.

I have to admit until reading so many positive reviews of Wishon I was a little apprehensive about buying clubs from a manufacturer I knew nothing about. Have to admit I am, was(?) an OEM ho... black%20eye.gif The Golf Doc in Woodstock, GA tells me that Wishon is one of his best sellers and folks who buy the Wishon brand love them.

So after doing due diligence I'm excited to see if they are as good as the reviews say they are! I'm betting they are!

Can't wait to hit to hit them as the heads look sweet. If the irons are sweet I will purchase a Wishon Hybrid as well, then possibly on to a Driver or wood. Wait, strike that, reverse it. Wait is it wood then Driver or Driver then wood. Dang, :beruo:
