Maybe the name R7 is going to be the franchise for TM. No more R5. I would think the bigger the head, the heavier the weights would have to be to effect trajectory. I'm not a club designer so don't quote me on that! :)

I would think the bigger the head the more dramatic the effect the weights could have, much like people with the 425's are saying, but I also do not want to get into a physics dissertation.

 

I saw some other pics of the 460 on another site (BombSquad maybe?) and it looks OK to me. It has a fixed weight plug in the rear of it similar to the Rescue Dual TP and VSteel 2 Japanese release.

I hate the new r7's. I have the current 400cc model and I love the look and compared to these monstrosities, it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I hope they change the look.

Taylormade coming out with this confuses me a bit. I understand they wanted to release a 460cc driver but the r5tp is big too. Is the 10cc difference really going to be a selling point? It seems the r5tp is the same but with a square face. I can only imagine the diffrence is the golfer they have in mind having the r5tp for better players and 460 for those who need a closed face

I did not like the look of it at first, but as usual it is starting to grow on me. I will have to give the r7 460 and the Adams 460D a fair chance to dethrone my current champ, the r5, but it will be a tough fight. The r5 has been in my bag for a year now, and had defended every challenger it has come up against so far.

Give TM another six months and they will have three more drivers out. Their marketing department feeds off of guys on these forums. If they keep changing, and we keep buying, the madness will never stop !

Yes, but when Ping out drives TaylorMade on a consistent basis, I just have to laugh. I love playing my friend. He declined an 18 this weekend because he said he had to mow. In the middle of the winter, I seriously doubt it. He feels the wrath. I love it.

I may never understand why people have a problem with companies that release new clubs. You do not HAVE to buy them, it is YOUR choice. We the consumer set the demand, the golf companies just fill the demand. Stop buying, and they will stop making so many. The whole process is great IMHO, and makes for some good clubs at low low closeout prices! :birthday:

That's true. I bought a great putter for a low price and at one time it was $150. I have no beef with them, I just think it's funny that some people will pay between $400 and $700 for a driver. To each his own. results speak for themselves.

Hey I am all about new products and technology. I was referring to TM. Most companies have one or two introductions at a time, which is great. TM products are more for change than function. I, or anyone else, could take the shaft out of their latest introductions, put it into a R580XD, and get the same results. If you want to hit it higher, get a low kick-point shaft. If you want to hit it lower, get a high kick-point shaft. The latest introductions (R5, R7, or whatever) do not hit the ball any further than the R580XD. Also, this validates your close-out theory, and we do benefit from the lower prices. It also shows you how much mark-up they have in their drivers. They are still making money on the close-outs or they would not lower the cost.
