Do you feel most beginners are putting too much thought into what's in their bag?

I have always wondered about this. Now that GOLF Magazine has this article out about what certain folks should have in their bags with regard to set up and their handicaps and swing speeds, etc, etc, etc, I feel that this is getting out of hand.

 

My school of thought has always been, do what works for you. If you can hit blades consistantly, then buy a set and hit them. If you are wondering if you need to carry a 7 wood or a 4 iron, go to the course and play and see if you have a gap in your set up and your distances. If you want to know if you need to carry a 3 wood or a Driver to hit off of the tee, then go see what you can hit.

 

I just hope many of the noobs aren't taking these recommendations as the gospel. Do what works for you or maybe what your professional recommends.

 

On the other hand, if you are wanting recommendations on certain brands then I can see getting others opinions on stuff like that. Just don't fill your bag with equipment that someone else tells you to. Use what you can and what your abilities allow.

 

The game of golf to me has always been about finding a repeating swing and hitting what I can consistantly. Sure I LOVE to tinker, but I make those decisions on my own. Some of them have worked, others haven't so much.

Totally agree! Do what works no matter what others say or suggest. Feel is one thing you can not buy!

Where were you when I need you?? I purchased a 4 wood and I'm enroute to purchase a 7 wood and I'm about to sell my 3-4 iron for a G5 hybrid. I've been to the range and can tell that I'm basically seeing little distance differentials in my 3 & 4 irons. All this was a result of the article in Golf Magazine. You're right though use what works for you. Hopefully I'd make a mistake.
