PING G2 Fairway Woods

A large, forgiving head and the choice of six loft options are just two of the reasons golfers of all abilities will find improved performance when choosing a G2 Fairway Wood.

Wow, no one has posted in this thread yet  guess I'm lucky number one

Anyway, these fairway woods are great, and they're long. They have stronger lofts than standard (the 5 wood is like a 4 wood, the 7 wood is like a 7+ wood, etc...), which makes them long, but they are just generally easy to hit. The G5 FWs are amazing too; they're a step up from the G2s IMO, but these are still great woods.

I had a G2 3-wood (14*) for a bit and absolutely hated it. When you hit it dead on, it definitely goes a long way. The thing that really started to get to me was how the hosel connects to the head on the club. I know it's cosmetic, but it just started to bother me when I was looking down on it at address. Needless to say, it has been replaced by a new Nickent FW and I couldn't be happier.

I know this thread is old, but then again, so am I. I have one of these G2's (7 wood) that has remained in my bag since my son gave it to me 10 or 12 years ago. Since then I have changed irons, putters, wedges and drivers almost as many times as I've changed my drawers. There's no way I would have ever bought this club and I can't even imagine someone saying or thinking, "Wow I sure wish I had a 7 wood, Ping or otherwise. It just didn't give me that "Oh boy" experience, but remains in my bag while the glamorous, hot faced drivers, can't miss putters and easy to hit irons sit gathering dust.

I have had one experience with this club that confounds me yet. I've done my own club work for at least 30 years and have built some decent drivers, but this 7 wood has me scratching my head. Hopefully some more experienced club builder can bail me out on this one. Please advise me of your opinion(s) of what I'm missing. The Ping G2 7 wood came to me with a broken shaft (too long ago to remember what series for sure), but I believe it was a TFC 100 stiff. I pulled it and replaced it with a Ping 350 Series Aldila X-stiff 71 gram shaft, cut to 42-1/2" long. Again, I've been playing this club a number of years. I'm 70 years old and hit this club over 200 yards (200 to 210 on a mishit, 235 on solid hits). Now, this is 20* 7 wood, with a shaft that should be too stiff for me. The drivers I've been building over the last 10 years have been stiff shafted and on occasion I would even try a regular flex, thinking I'm getting old and I'm probably ready to cut it back some. Anyway, my thinking now is maybe I'm fooling myself trying to build to what the naysayers suggest for someone my age. My driver distance is maybe 15 to 20 yards longer (250ish solidly hit) than this mysterious 7 wood. Any suggestions relevant would be greatly appreciated before I spend a wad of cash on x-stiff shafts in chasing the 300+ yard dream. Thanks in advance, Golfgrief!
