In the meteorologist's defense, I'm one myself...and viewers need to realize it's not just one county or community a station covers. Tornadoes are so localized and so freak and dangerous, people's lives are truly in danger. Policy is to stay on air until the warning expires and/or the danger has passed everyone in the coverage area. Lives and property are worth more than golf, no matter the magnitude of the tournament.

They do this when it's lightly snowing too. Each channel tries to outdo the other for ratings. Obviously it's more important to warm people of bad weather than it is to watch golf, but they take it a little too far most of the time. You would think these 2 weather guys were watching porn they are so excited to be on the air right now.

At least I can watch 17 on the internet.

C'mon. All they need is a crawl or a bug in the corner of the screen.

With all due respect, weathermen on TV believe their job is a hell of a lot more important than it really is.

I am just north of Charlotte where the big storm was crossing and it was almost 3 HOURS of nothing but 2 weathermen stroking each other and showing pictures of hail. They should have just put the scroll across the bottom and maybe cut in every 10-15 minutes for a quick 1 minute warning...but 3 consecutive hours is not necessary. I am pissed since Quinney is my favorite player...sucks that I did not get to see much of his great round. I will be calling NBC to complain tomorrow.

The same station did the same damn thing on Thursday night of last week for another hour...so I had to miss the season finale of the only show that I enjoy watching besides golf, Scrubs. So in a week, NBC kept me from a season finale and the final 3 hours of the Players with my favorite player in it to the end. Rediculous!!!!

I am already praying each and every day that their won't be any bad weather in the Charlotte area during the U.S. Open. I can see it now, Tiger and Sergio locked in a close battle, and we'll get to see 3 holes.

Believe me, I understand the news stations' right and responsibility to inform the residents about severe weather, but what they do borders on fear mongering.

I did see where the local ABC station switched the NBA playoffs over to one of its sister stations during the storms. Is it too much to ask of WCNC (local Charlotte NBC affiliate) to do that?

I will say that some of you are right...some stations get a little obsessive going for good ratings...but in the case of breaking weather news like a tornado warning/outbreak, we need to be on the air until the danger passes.

As for the people who think we have an easy job and it's just guessing...come watch me prepare a forecast...trying to make an exact prediction out of all the models, numbers, and figures we use to do it will give you a headache.

Why can you not just run the warning along the bottom of the screen...and cut into broadcast every 10-15 minutes with a quick 1 minute update. Did we really need to see 3 hours of pictures of hail...or hear the weather guy say "rotating wall cloud" over 100 times per hour? 3 hours? Really? Why is it necessary for NBC to do this while other stations do not?

Question : How many people will actually be watching TV when a tornado touches down in their respective county/area? Much less be able to watch TV :clapping:

Ok, since I have lived in Oklahoma most of my life I feel that I have an opinion on this subject. To defend the weathermen, when an outbreak of tornados is bearing down your back door, it's vital to watch these men do their job to know where it is coming from, the magnitude of the rotation, which side of town it's on, etc. Just because there's a tornado warning in the same county doesn't mean a tornado is going to demolish your house.

But, I do think there needs to be a separate channel designated for the reports. There's no reason for other people to suffer through the broadcasts when the severe weather is 100 miles north of their location. It seems pointless, which it is, except to the ratings of the station.

In Northeast Ohio, we always had a Picture-in-picture like feature where they showed the massive thunderstorm or Alberta Clipper coming through. They broke only when something new was happening, not just stringing it along. Take it for truth through that that guy might have saved a life that day. You see what happens when people get little or no warning about major storms? Myanmar anyone? Lots of people had no idea, or were only told a storm was coming. But I agree, a little radar in the corner, a scrolling info bar, and a short break is sufficient.

We got an interruption here in Central Florida, too. Only it was out of control brushfires. Our NBC affiliate handled it well. The tournament was reduced to a PIP-type box and the news anchor took over the main screen. This only lasted about 10 minutes, and was not too intrusive.

Unfortunately, some people lost their homes here due to the fires. The good news is nobody was injured or lost their life. LPGA headquarters and the golf club in Daytona were in the path of the fires, but were saved. Think about dry brushy fuel everywhere, on fire, and being spread by the same type of wind the players at TPC Sawgrass were dealing with.....Whoosh!

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
