How good are you?

ironplayer

Recommended Posts

Well, as the title says... I was wondering how good you are...based on how much you practice. I really think that golf is very honest game. It just shows how much you have practiced. Of course there are some exceptions, those we call 'prodigy' or 'very talented' ... whatever. But for regular weekend golfer( in my case, monthly gofer), i think it's pretty much how you prepare yourself for your next round.

So, I'd like to know,

HOW LONG have you been playing golf

HOW often you play a regular round(18 hole)

HOW Often you practice (everyday, once a week, twice a month...)

And what's your handicap?( if you don't have an index, just give some number like +20...)

Thanks :birthday:

I've been playing 12 yrs (im 17), I only play 18 on the weekend as I have tons of schoolwork to do but I practice almost every day. Sometimes not mondays bc my golf course is closed monday except for a few months out of the yr. USGA says +3.1 which at my home course (they played the honda classic there a few times TPC Eagle Trace) from the back tees is about 7100 yds with a course rating of about 75 so I shoot about par from the back...gets a little higher from farther up bc I start out hitting fairways and being able to reach hazards you cant reach from the back tees etc. For most ppl its you get out what you put in...been true for me but I had a serious shoulder injury and came back out after 5-7 months off, 5 months of doing nothing and then for the last 2 i could hit pitches and chips, and Ive been playing the best golf Ive played in a while bc you lose all the bad swing thoughts, i also decided to start working on my own swing so less confusion is part of it.

Played 3 seasons

Play 2-4 times a month in the summer

Practice about once a week, 1-2 hours

Hcp is currently 9-ish but is still going down

I should say that I learned the game as a kid and I played maybe 3-4 years (sporadically). I quit when I was about 14-15. I think I was about a hcp 12 by then.

I took up golf again at 36-37 when my oldest kid started to play.

HOW LONG have you been playing golf from age 10 off and on I'm now 28. So I guess 18 years give or take several months in between. I have been at it pretty serious for a year.

HOW often you play a regular round(18 hole) I play twice a month during the winter and play every weekend during the spring and summer.

HOW Often you practice (everyday, once a week, twice a month...) I take lessons 2 times a month and practice every Friday after 2:30.

And what's your handicap?( if you don't have an index, just give some number like +20...) My handicap is 18.5675

I've been playing for two years this march.

I rarely get to play 18 holes because of the time, but I play 9 once a week.

I go to the range for about 1.5 hours each day mon-fri, so about 7.5 hours of practice atleast per week.

For the past two months I've been scoring 3-4 over par per nine holes. Probably around a 11-14 handicap for 18 holes. Endurance kills me, and there is always one or two blow-up holes, but birdies are starting to drop much more frequently. I can score anywhere from 80 to 95 on any given day.

I've been playing I believe this is my 6th year.

During spring, summer, and fall I play and practice 6 days a week on average. My current handicap is at +1 but I think that this is the year that I'm finally gonna make some good things happen with my golf. Hopefully win lots of tournaments and get that handicap down to the +3 to +5 range.

Ironplayer,

Here we go!

I've been playing golf for 34 years (I'm 46)

I live in Canada, so I play 7 months a year and play about 10 times a month on average.

I try to go to the range about once a week when my work schedule allows it.

My handicap is 11.3 because of day job committments....

There you go...

Regards,

D.

And what's your handicap?( if you don't have an index, just give some number like +20...) - 11.5 trending to a 13.

(For those of you who might be contemplating getting into the golf "business" the practice and play numbers ARE "reality" for most of us.......at least IF your an owner.....:birthday:)

42 of my 44 years.....

12 times per year.......

6 or so times a year........(what I call "practice" anyway)

+ 2.2 last time I checked.....(but I can't play to it right now....at least consistently.....too old, too fat, and out of shape :birthday:)

Disclaimer.......I played/practiced EVERY SINGLE DAY from the age of 10 till 30....probably didn't miss 30 days over 20 years of doing something with a golf club.......from 1980 - 90 I figure I easily hit 1 million practice balls if you count pitching/bunkers........so I definitely "paid mine".......:)

I played golf on and on mostly during the summer months for about 12 years then the last 2 years I have taken the game more seriously and really tried to improve. I play full 18 hole rounds on the weekends at least twice per month excluding holidays and vacations. The other weekends I spend an hour to two hours at the range practicing everything. I try to practice some part of my game everyday at home usually spending a 1/2 hour to an hour. I also try and work out 4 times a week just to improve my golf game. I am currently a 14 handicap and I would like to be under a 10 by the end of this year.

i've been playing golf for 3 years, i play everday in the summer and range everyday in the winter (try to play on weekends, but i live in washington and we are currently on our 23 day straight of rain). I am a 1.9 on my USGA card, but i'm trying to get it down to scratch before next fall so i can walk on in college.

:birthday: Wow~. Impressive!!! some guys playing single digits without a practice session. If you play often enough, i guess that would explain. i really wish i could be like that too. I almost got discouraged that there are several guys who've been playing only for 1-2 years and showing HC like 2~5. But I also see some people like me high in the 80's when playing good, and low 90's usually.

I'm usually happy and satisfied when i break 90. When my kids(2.5 year old boy and 8 week old princess) get old enough to play with me, I'll try to break 80's. :birthday:

Thanks for the replies guys! :)

3jackanono......................I feel your pain, you described my game almost completely (lefty also)

Playing 14yrs.

Play 4-5 times a month

Practice at least once a week, usually twice............still never had a lesson

Handicap last entered was 0.3, got down to a +2.1 during summer hot putter streak. Three "doh" moments a round away from trying to make a go of it.

Been playing just over 4 years.

This past year making an effort to play once a week. Tough sometimes in winter with work and other commitments but can't wait for longer daylight.

Practice 1-2 times week the last few months. Really has helped.
