Bridgestone J33 Cavity irons

how big is the head size?
I'm looking for a new set of irons. Currently play nike blade with PX5.5 and i like them a lot. But i think i can use some cavity irons especially for my 3 iron. came across with BG J33 cavity on their website and also saw one on ebay. looks pretty good. they looks very similar to miura cb-21 i used to have for 7-P. The problem with the Miura was that the heads were too big for my taste.

So, i was wondering if anyone has ACTUALLY seen the J33 cavity, and can do some size comparison with nike blades or other common irons like mizuno MP-33's 32's..

thanks in advance.

They're pretty small -- very close to an MP-32, with less offset and a SLIGHTLY thicker topline. Everyone who has seen pictures of the back of the club and dismissed it as a copy of the original 690cb needs to look at them in person. Definitely smaller than an MP-60.

Are they the same size as the Combos? According to Bridgestone they are for the mid-hdcper whereas the combos cater to a better player.

There's a related thread below.

J33 link

While the website does suggest that the cb's are for low to mids, and the combos for "pros" tp low amateurs, I think the consensus is that the Combos are a little easier to hit. Haven't seen or hit the cb's, but I think that they are possibly the best looking cb on the market.

i've hit the j33 cb's quite a bit. i think the comparison of size to the 32's is pretty accurate (below poster), but i wouldn't say they have a thicker topline ... it's pretty thin. less offset and less rounded than the mizuno's. beautiful sticks ... almost positive these will be my next set.

... i know bridgestone says this ... and while the j33 cb's are not too difficult to hit, i.e. a good iron-striking 10-12 handicap player can use them effectively ... they are essentially for a low index player like pretty much all the bridgestone stuff.

A little off topic, but I am interested in Bridgestone J33B and I was how the offset, top line, and clubhead size compare with Nike Blades. I would check them out for myself, but it's kind of hard to find J33's around here. Any other comments are appreciated about these irons.

... can't do a direct comparison to the nike blades as i haven't had those in front of me in awhile. but, the j33 blades are one of the most beautiful sets of irons i've ever seen in a lot of years of playing/seeing different sets. the offset is essentially zero, heads are small (but maybe a hair larger than the nikes ... and i mean a hair) ... much more compact than, say, a big blade like an mp-33. toplines are very thin, perfect thin. toes are just slightly squared/pointed (much more so than a mizuno and probably more so than the nikes to my recollection), soles are thin with a little camber and a little roll to the leading edge. to me, the feel is soft and very pure (imo better than the nikes and as good as mizuno).

to my eye these things set up perfect. the short irons are just awesome. you better be a hell of a great striker to play the 3-5 irons consistently well (but, that is undoubtedly true of the nikes as well). one feature that is different than many others in the long hosel ... supposedly to create a higher cog and keep the flight down.

I set the 5 and 8 irons of the J33CB next to the respective irons of the J33 combo set and they are pretty close. The toe is a little more rounded and the topline maybe a hair thicker. If you turn upside down the soles of the CBs a tad wider, but it is hard to tell. The big differences between the two are in 7-PW for obvious reasons, but the CBs are not big.

Comparisons to MP-32s are fairly accurate, but I would tend to go with a comparison to MP-60s.

I hit the J33CBs and they felt great. The feedback and soft feel are your typical high quality of Bridgestone. I was tempted to get a set, but I am sticking to my Titleist 735s simply because I really don't feel like changing out the whole bag.

You can't really compare the CBs to Nike Blades, they are just way too different. But the CBs are not bulky. I am pretty picky about toplines and bulkiness that's why I do not play anything like Callaways other than the occasional experiment. The other thing I look for is how the back looks at address when you use a 4 iron or 5 iron. For example, Slingshots would drive me crazy just too much bulk in the back. Hogan Ch-5s fool you because they look good 7-PW, but then all of the sudden the sole/back gets thicker and it's a distraction.

You don't have this problem with the J33 CBs. Yes, the 3-5i are designed to be a little more forgiving, but it's not thick. Personally, I still think you have to be a good player to benefit, I wouldn't recommend them to a mid handicapper unless they lose all their strokes around the green. Mid-handicappers are better off going to RAC LTs, Cally's, or the bigger Titleists.
