Nike at Sony Open

I noticed that Nike Golf has a huge presence at the Sony Open. If you look down the leaderboard it seems that there is more Nike equipment than other OEM's. They have come a long way in a couple of years. I guess they are definitely getting their money's worth on the Tiger contract.

I have to disagree with the two posters above. I doubt the other players care what Tiger is playing. I think it has more to do with the money they are being shown by Nike.

I agree. It's not like everyone in the Nike camp shares in the winnings of other players in the Nike "stable."

Not really inferior equipment anymore, they make some great stuff......

 

 

Plus if doesn't hurt that they have the $$ to throw around.

You guys have it correct. Players will go where the MONEY is. Nike is putting more money into the pot than many others. If you are the up and coming star Nike will put more money in your pocket for what you might do in the future. And with this great stable of players Nike is making some of the best new products for them to hit. The more the swoosh is shown on Thursday-Sundays the more the swoosh will sell on Monday. T.V. time is what there after and its working.

Nick is on an apparel deal with Nike, not sure about clubs anymore. The only reason Taylor Made was the number one driver on tour was that they paid the most to play with there equipment and it wasnt too bad. The number one equipment stuff on the darrell survey can bebought, it just depends if the company feels it is worth the investment. Just a though.

It's taken many OEM's dozens of years to get the tour presence that Nike has gained in a relatively short time with Tiger. Tiger is definitely the showcase but their equipment has come a long way in a short few years. How quickly people forget the VAS irons, howitzers, and burners of yesteryear..........

a player is going to play with equipment he likes. i'm sure every player out there likes the equipment from a couple of different companies, and from there, picks based on money and also who the equipment guru is. part of the reason justion leonard went with nike is so that he could work again with tom stites. i think nike getting tom stites from ben hogan is one of the major factors nike has been able to suceed as quickly as they have. i don't think any player is playing nike because tiger plays nike, but they are playing nike because of tiger. nike wouldn't not be what they are without tiger. i applaud nike with some of the players they have signed. i don't know if people know/remember, but micheal cambell was with nike early on too. bet nike wishes they didn't let him get away.

Nike buys tiger. People watch tv, buy nike because tiger uses it. Nike makes more money. Nike buys another golfer with its profits. Rinse and repeat.

Nike's approach to Golf Equipement is the Right way to do it...Buy Impact Technologies from Tom Stites and Hire him to be your Club Director along with his talented Team. Steal Talented Club makers like Rick Whalen from TaylorMade after the Blue Driver. Steal Rock Ishii from Bridgestone to develope and innovate Golf Balls for Nike. They have thrown their money toward R & D such as the 28,000+ sq feet club facility along with a state of the art ball facility, while the other companies which are much larger in terms of golf. choose to invest more on Tour Presence such as Driver and Ball counts.

Signing Tiger was obviously the right move because he has won with and legitimized the product at the tour level. The major thing is that Nike has chosen to innovate products that the Tour Players have direct imput into the process and this is why all of the Top Tour players are moving over to Nike.

Chad Campbell say how quickly Justin Leonard won with Nike product like he saw Stewart Cink and Stephen Ames win immediately after they changed to Nike Ball and Clubs.

Nike had the most wins on Tour with Irons in 05'...
