Nike NDS irons

What are your thoughts?

I know they are low on the totem pole, but what do you guys think? I like their price point, and the notch weighting seems similar to Callaway stuff. Are they getting replaced by Nike in the spring? Any thoughts or reviews would be great. Thanks.

I think that the nike nds irons are one of the best cavity back irons around. I use these irons myself and I have found that my game has greatly improved because of the nds- from 180 yard 4 irons to bump and runs with the 8 iron or p wedge

very very underated irons. in my opinion a much better iron than the slingshot irons. i would say they are a middle of the road iron. a good player could use them and not miss out on anything, but a weak iron player could use them and gain from it. it is a real shame that these irons were overshadowed because they really are great irons.

I agree that these are a very under rated set of irons. I've been playing Pro Combos since inception but could easily go to a NDS set. I took a demo NDS 6 iron out during a round and found the distance and ball flight were similar to my PC 6 iron.

I too have been playing the Pro Combos from the beginning and when two of my friends who recently took up golf were looking for new clubs I told them to look into the NDS. After both of them bought them, I have tried the NDS on numerous ranges sessions and they are SEVERELY underrated and relatively unknown.

i hit one of my friends NDS irons before and i didn't like them at all...very flimsy and unlike a normal cavity with a bad feel. But that's just me, i would totally go on your personal preference...good luck!

decent set of irons for the price. these irons are so good that they even have tour presence, grace park rocks the nds irons. the only problem is that nike developed them as a cheap set of clubs and thus put no frills into them. slap some dynamic gold shaft in these guys and you have yourself a winner in my opinion.

Thanks for the info guys. I hit them at the store today and really liked them. I've read that these irons have a tendency to rust in the cavities. Any truth to that? Thanks

I played a set of NDS when they first came out- stuck some Project X in therea and they were ultra accurate. Even pure hits feel thin, otherwise I would still be playing them.

I've had the nds for over 10 months now and there is no rust on them. Mind you, I do keep good care of them.

These were on my have to have list and then I got many bonuses from work, and I then moved up to RAC's and PING, but honestly, you can't get any better than those for the money.

 

If you are an NDS guy, I suggest Cleveland TA6 and Ben Hogan BH-5. All these are great values and great irons.

Anyone hit the Nike NDS irons and Callaway X-14's (both in stock steel shafts), and done a comparison? Got feedback? I'm playing the X-14's now, but some days feel like they have a tad too much offset. Nike NDS look better, and probably wouldn't cost me all that much in a trade with the X-14's. Just a thought!

There seems to be a lot of love for these irons....I might have to conisder these over the CG4's I have been thinking about.

I have had mine for over a year, and no rust at all. They are GREAT irons. Specs are almost the same as the Pro Combo Tour (Original Pro Combos). Lofts are the same, I think the Lie may be a touch different. The progressive offset actually gets you a little LESS offset than the Pro Combos int he short irons. (We are talking THOUSANDTHS of an inch here.)

 

Top line is thinner than Callaway, but not as thin as a true blade. Thicker than the Pro Combos, but I had no problem making a transition. Wide soles prevent digging and fat shots (This was a KEY for me). Very forgiving, but still workable.

 

At the price, these irons are a STEAL, and a GREAT back up set. The shafts are so-so, if you are picky. Reshafting may be my next order of business....after lessons.

Grace Park said that these were the only Nike irons that were similar to her Pings and she played well the first time she put them in the bag so they've stayed there. She tried the Pro Combos but they had a tendency to dig on her. This year she's going to try the PC OS but the NDS' are still her gamers.
