hitting way behind the ball,and it's driving me nutts

Hello fellow golfwrx'ers, i'm dealing with a problem that has got me going :crazy: this past weekend i was in the garage and had a big piece of cardboard just laying around and when i'm not doing anything i'll hit those Nerf golf balls at the garage door just to keep my swing in decent shape,and make a full swing with out breaking anything. So to get to the point :blink: i decided to put that cardboard to good use, i laid it down on the floor put some marks on the c board and placed the balls on those spots, i always knew i hit behind the ball some what, but i figured this would let me find out how much it really was. Well when i found out i almost sh%t myself :) , I was hitting some 2or3" behind the rock, i couldn't believe it. So i guess my question is, :jester: I had a golf pro tell me once, that you hit ball first then comes the divot. Funny thing was tho that it seemed i was making solid contact,it feels like that on the course and at the range also. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Or is it just me? I have to be loosing distance with my shots,right?I've always had quick hips in the downswing but it feels like i'm making solid contact,could i be releasing the angle of the to soon,picking up my left foot on downswing :aikido: :aikido: :ninja: It should be said that i hit a 3, 5, 8 iron for this little experiment,all with the same results. Any input would be greatly appreciated from you guys,cause i'm at a loss. :ninja:

I have a post going up on my site on January 22nd regarding divots.

I'm just going to take a guess here, I could be wrong. When you swing are you worried at all about hitting the roof? A flatter swing can produce, no divot... or a divot before the ball. That 'pro' was correct, but only for your irons do you want to have a divot after the ball. You want a steep angle of attack into the ball. Woods you sweep.

Also, check your ball position, as it tends to creep forward in the stance moreso than anywhere else.

It could be many things. An early release would be my first guess. You could also be reverse pivoting.

I still struggle with this problem...and I really have to work on shifting my weight forward on the downswing. I really think about using my chest on the downswing (not my arms)...that way I get over the ball and make solid strikes down on the ball. It also helps me keep my wrist angle which leads to longer shots.

You have to move a little bit in your swing...a little on the backswing to the right foot and more on the downswing to the left foot (but don't sway). I struggled with keeping too much weight on the right foot as I came down, and hit all kinds of fat shots.
