Watching the GC late last night and heard an interesting report. Phil is testing, and plans on playing, a 47" driver in selected events this year. It is an FT-3 with Diamana. Will be interesting to see the results. FORE...

Phil plans on alternating between a 47 & 45 driver depending on the course and the layout. The 45 will still be his primary though from what I've heard.

He has said before that he dosen't really care about hitting the fairway, that most of the time the distance gained is more of an advantage than being 50 yards back and in the fairway. Now ofcourse US Open type courses/set-ups are different but I just don't see him caring about accuracy and that 47 inch driver would do that. Wonder why the jump of 2 inches...

I catch hell because a G5 driver's shaft is a couple of hundredths of an inch or so longer than the standard driver. So I'm told.

who cares what phil's driover shaft length is, honestly these guys are so good they could go to WAL-MART buy a driver and stripe it better than we could with a $800 dollar R7 TP 425. 2 inches to these guys on a shaft is nothing!

2 inches is something. tiger admitted it was quite a change when he went from steel to graphite, due to weight and shaft length. two inches is a lot.

I agree golfernut. If 2" was nothing and PGA players could play any driver length with no adverse affects, the average driver length on tour wouldn't be under 45".

As to my contribution, does anyone want to bet against Phil to crack the top ten on the money list this year? Come on people, he just added 2 inches to his driver--that might eliminate some income. Any takers? Remember he doesn't play a full season . . . what, no one? He puts his family first and is rumored to have a huge gambling problem. No bets? He's not in as good a shape as Adam Scott and Charles Howell III . . . anybody? That's what I thought. (cool)

You just got caught in a rant. :D My signature just grew tonight--mainly to make a point and I shouldn't have singled you out for your signature or your post (I do actually enjoy many of your posts, and recognize that you do make contributions). The bulk of that post was definitlely not directed at you, but all these people thinking that 2" is going to make all the difference in Phil's season.
